Nowadays, better don't try to rely on kids. I'm going to make sure I have enough for retirement. You can count your lucky stars if they don't prove to be a burden. -
Actually the 2nd statement is not always true. One of the reasons why so many old couples are damned pok kai is because they spent all the money raising the children. And the children may have difficulties of their own in getting by, especially in today's climate. Then how? Plenty of destitute old folks have children and grandchildren even. Seriously I'm extremely disillusioned by the behavior of kids these days that I really dread to have one of my own (though I don't think I have much choice on that one) Seems that pets are less of a headache, and gives you less stress and not as draining on your pocket.
And the government wonders why most married couples don't want to have kids these days. I dunno.... seems that the higher educated you are, the less likely that you want kids? At least that is the trend I'm seeing amongst my friends. -

For ministers and MPs, different. They get paid so much they can have 4 to 5 kids without much problem.
I really do not understand why its usually the lower income families that have so many children, then live a hand to mouth existence struggling to support these kids.

so, i believe whether couples want to have kids should depend on whether they love kids, not whether how troublesome kids can be or draining on their pockets

Other than financial concerns and whether a couple likes kids or not, I also feel that another question needs to be asked. And that is if they really want to raise their child in their current environment.
I know for a fact that I do not want to raise a child in Singapore. -

So SO loves kids but I see them as tiny pests with loud voices and looking at my nieces, that is enough to put anyone off on having kids They even scared my SO
Well, I do know as a fact that my parents love kids so that is a different story

The problem is, my cousin is very strict with them but they know they won't be punished at their grandparents place because they are really really extremely cute and good looking kids (I think they will be man-killers when they grow up) So they use it to their advantage and it's reallyOriginally posted by av98m: Thats how I see them as well.
