Hamsters belongs to the rodent family who has a diet of plants...
and small animals including earthworm, moles (yes, killing their relatives..) grasshoppers... now you won't want me to continue..

By the way, to be correct, they attack and kill their relatives (moles), but usually doesn't really finish them for meals. They don't really eat other rodents....
but they do have an appetite for small insects..
PLEASE keep only give them fresh vege and fruits with low sugar content and totally avoid citrus fruits.
They can always take dry food (nuts, wheat) and cabbage. -

they're dwarf hammies...
one of the babies died last night... instead of the mother eating the bb up... she brought all the babies from the top to the bottom of teh cage.. including the dead one. she would bring the dead one down... and chuck the dead one at one side... not eating it up.. nor burying it. (she did bury the dead one when they were upstairs..)
why ar?
1 say the mommy is too dumb. the other say the mommy is a vegetarian

when a hamster gives birth, put a LOT of food and a LOT of water in the cage, put the cage in a quiet corner of the house and cover the cage with a cloth to keep the cage dark...
that way, the mother will feel secure... and will not eat the babies..
also, if possible, try to give in the food, higher protein stuff.. -

we dumped loads of food in, those gua zi.. some kinda melon seed or sth... and some carrots and some other stuff we bought from pet shops... loads of water as well..
what do we do with the dead one? my mom thinks its squashed... to death.. nel thinks it didn get to feed thats why it died...

the male tried to hump the female one... she ran away... when she got nowhere to run.. she bit him.. den he bit her back..
and the male is the aggressive one here...

male should be shifted out of the cafe. Keep only the female and the babies inside.

earlier onnel oso said take out the male.. den later we decided against it cos.. the male was a great help to the female... he built this nest like thing for the female after she gave birth (acc to my brother) and helped to tear open this dunno what skin thing (acc to my brother) and the female one would play with him.. so we tot its ok.. until he started to attempt to hump her
the mother is ok with us near wor.. she can slp... and just nua there... but the male would be very figetive... move here n there sniff here n there... -

I've read it's best to keep the father in the cage with the mother. My advice: take him out as soon as she starts looking fat. He will probably eat the babies, not care for them. Some fathers do help raise the babies and take care of mom, but to be on the safe side, take him out. Also, the moment after the mother gives birth, she goes into heat. The male WILL mate with her and she will become pregnant again and deliver in 18 days. That is another reason why I recommend separating him. This gives her time to rest between litters.
