The thing is, I learnt very quickly when I first started work, that even if you keep to your own business and don't involve yourself in the politics, those politicking fools will come and tekan you and try to bully you so in the end, to protect yourself, you have to play the game wisely too.
Why must people be so mean.. why can't everyone work together in harmony?! Afterall, we're all working towards one goal anyways.

And I betcha that they do. Cuz these people, they don't even love themselves, therefore, no one else they know can ever lead a life that's 'good enuff' either. I feel so disgusted with folks like these! There were plenty of them in my new workplace. You'd think they were friends with someone, but when that person's not around, they'll gossip about her. I was
at first, cause, hey, where's your alliance to your pal, y'know? Then later, I realised these people are all superficial and don't have any pals at all! 
Even worse are those who give you the impression that they are friendly or pal-ly with certain folks. And then they reveal their true inner thoughts to another colleague and it turns out that they actually dislike that person you thought they liked! I mean, whoa... sooo polished in their deceit! They can smile and joke and make the person they dislike feel as if they're buddies like that! 
That, to me, is extremely sinister!
Reminds me of this book that was popular way back in the early '90's - Chu Chin Ning's "Thick Face, Black Heart". -
Yeah.. it's .... I feel a bit awkward for them too. I mean, i wonder if they KNOW this is how most people will respond to them too... like u know.. a mixture of embarassment and awkwardness. Most of the time I will just be noncommittal. I won't pretend to say I have NEVER bitched abt my supervisor or my boss before... but most of the time, they know EXACTLY why I am pissed off with them already anyway. But once I was caught in a position where.. ok let me know how you guys will respond to this.
I asked my direct supe for some help cos I was new and in front of me, my supe directed a colleague to send me something she has done before to assist me. Her response at the moment was a curt 'No'. I was a bit stunned, my supe sort of 'manja' her a bit say aiyaaa send her laa.. oh send me too cos I also want please... then she was like... finally 'OKla ok la"...
BUT she never did send the files.
So the impression I got was this particular piece of document was perhaps something that the general staff felt ownership over cos every staff will create their own. (Its basically a work plan) So even though I was having difficulty with mine, I didn't dare to ask anymore. UNtil one day my asst asked why didn't I borrow one from my peers.
And I just said "donno leh.. i think issit they don't really like to lend me cos they are worried I will just copy?"
She said: "whatever gaveu that idea?? You can borrow from anyone!"
I said : "oh but I tried and.." (then I paused cos... dunno wat to say leh)
then she said "Who refused to lend you??"
Would u have given the person's name in this circumstance? She didn't ask cos she was angry or anything, just like curious. -
NO NO NO. For the simple reason people, especially office assistants, tend to be big gossips. If you had revealed the name your assistant might have well told everyone, including the person you named, possibly starting with the line"I've got something to tell you but don't tell anyone else hor...." And before you know it, the whole company knows. I'd just rather approach the person directly and ask for the file. Worst line I've ever heard,and more than once too
"XXX told me not to tell anyone but I'm telling you hor, don't tell anyone else or XXX OK?....."
At work, I've also put the foot down on gossip like this. Anytime anyone approaches me with that line, I cut them off and tell them I'm not interested to know. I'm always given a suprised and disappointed expression from those people when I do that. -

i felt awful cos I gave the name.. cos I was just stunned. I never expected to be asked point blank cos if it were me, I wouldnt have asked. I mean it doesn't solve my problem what. There was a long awkward pause after she asked and cos suddenly my mind went blank and I didnt know what to say... I just blurted the name. THen I felt soooooo shitty abt it but I'm glad cos my asst explained that she is a very nice lady, but like to tease people and sometimes forgetful so don't worry abt it.
But think generally my working environment the people are not so gossipy ba... I've been here about 3-4 months, and during lunch times, my colleagues seem happily talk abt their children, work etc. Most of the time when they mention another colleague, it is often to talk abt how nice this person is. THOUGH I've had lunch with another colleague who tells me abt how 'SOME PEOPLE' like to 'DIG DIG DIG" information about "you". I didn't ask who or what happened la. I just said 'orr" and continue to eat my food.
Or maybe I am just clueless
oh btw.. i dont work in an office so mebbe tt's why. -
my first job.. i would describe my bosses as the sugarcane juice seller.. they literlly suqeeze every bit of juice out of us.. hardly any free time and every day in and OT almost everyday.. bosses use psycho pressure on u to come back on saturdays to work even though they say its 5-day week.. took away a lot of my life and health..
now onto second job.. much better, but the stress peaks can also be quite a killer.. got more time for myself.. but its a larger organisation so facing a tough climb.. but i think i m getting my health and mental well-being back.. -
Graduated with a Diploma in May 2002.
Finished NS in Nov 2004.
Worked part time/contract til July 2005.
Slack til Feb 2006 (while working a few weeks for a few ocassions)
Now wake up at 5am to get ready to work. 7.30am work til 4.30pm. OT til 6.30 sometimes.
Reach home home about 8.30pm. Eat dinner. Sleep around 11pm. Wake up at 5am again.
Rinse and repeat. Plus it's 5.5 work week. I slept at 10pm yesterday night and I woke up at 12pm today.
Is this how I'm going to spend for the rest of my life?

no wonder so many people are applying for grad school .... the world outside can be such a scary place ... -

i'd wish for weekends to come faster... but i hate weekends -

"I'm sorry, I can't tell you!"
"I'm the boss, I have to know everything! Tell me who!"
"I can't... because I don't want to get the person in trouble!"
"You have to trust me! I'm the boss, I know how to act, what to do! You mean, you don't trust me?!"
"No, but... "
"Then tell me!!"
A few times, I refused.
In one instance, it wasn't my superior who interrogated me but a senior. She got so angry and red-faced about it, I had no choice but to tell her who did it.
The next day, there was a huge drama cause everyone in my workplace gave me a dirty look. And then, the girl herself stormed over and shouted at me, "What did you tell her? Why must you implicate me?! You got me in trouble! I will refuse to teach you anymore stuff!!"
And I was just a junior in the ICU then. It's like, Turn Left kena slapped, Turn Right also kena slapped! Totally no-win situation. -

that's really sucky... It really very sian when people around you are filled with gossip and suspicion and distrust for each other... makes a very depressing work environment...
I am lucky that my aide asked me out of good intentions and not to gossip or anything. :O Or I hope... -
