Something else to consider: from an employer's perspective, it's usually more cost-effective to hire someone with an undergrad degree for entry level positions. They can be paid less than someone with a grad school degree vying for the same position. -

its tiring but i like my job. so i rationalised that in the end, it really is about one's interest and passion. if the job you are doing now is only a source of income to you and nothing more, then working long hours is of course going to be a drag. if however, you enjoy what you are doing, you learn and grow in your job, then longer working hours usually wont hurt. and you wont burnout that easily.
but now what im doing is really deskbound. am yearning for some chiong sua for a change!

there's more to life than adding more speed but they choose to do that..

Let's face it working life is like that throughout the world...whether we like it or not, we are stuck in between....of course there are people who work less and there are people who work more than us....Just get on with life
If not happy, get out of the rat race and start thinking about how to re-organize....if money is the problem, work and think at the same time of how to get out of the rat race.....
I got into business some time back and am loving it although I work even longer hours than most of you....and its no boast to say we business people work harder than you employed people....but the satisfaction is there...so what are you complaining about...
Then when you are more or less settled down, go get yourself a passport outta here and get a life somewhere else which most of us are doing anway...get to another country cause here is not meant for us for the whole life...... -

i'm not trying to stop anyone but do your research first.. i've seen too many people jump into situations without doing the first bit of research and getting burnt so bad before they even knew what hit them..
again, for those who cry foul about "office politics" and other things, remember: you have a choice...
you don't have to be sheep and follow along...
i see a lot of people complain bitterly about office politics yet they are so at home at it.. it's scary...
do some soul-searching first.. then go do what you think is right for you.. -

Please....there is so much to be offered elsewhere...globalization, exposure....wake up man.....get a life and dare to try something new...
Of course this does not happen overnight...I've worked and studied before cause I need the money...then start own business....slog and suffer and earn more....
We must allow ourselves to go out and explore the world..and dare to take chances...locals here are basically too scared.....of well....guess there must be a critical mass to remain here to keep things going but not all should stay -

i know.. but many have "escaped" thinking the grass is greener the other side.. without doing any research...
there are opportunities everywhere... i for one, know that i can make it anywhere because i am willing and able to adapt, and go in with eyes wide open... but somehow, i have this affinity for home.. it pulls at my heart and therefore, i stay
we make what we want out of life.. i would say that a lot of people are like you said, scared... even in singapore, we have a lot of things to be thankful for, but most are too jaded to even explore while they would explore every nook and cranny some other place...
life here isn't easy.. but if you make the choice, and live a simple life without getting yourself loaded down with all the nonsensical stuff like luxuries bought with debt, life is pretty good
we talk about exploring the world, without even lifting a finger to explore our own backyard.. our own frontyard.. heck! even our own living room!
the choice, like i said, is entirely up to the person.. if he chooses to be part of the ratrace, he becomes a rat.. and that rat will remain a rat no matter where the "opportunities" take him...
while a person who does his work properly, not caring about status, promotions and all that, finding that what defines him as a human isn't his job, but what he does with the proceeds of his job and what he does in his time away from his job, may find what everyone who och and moan about their jobs are looking for
unless you are addicted to work, you probably won't find happiness in your office.. remember.. lots of people, at their deathbeds regret spending too little time with their loved ones.. i don't think anyone at their deathbeds regret spending too little time at the office

I have no problems with your comments
In fact I do respect those that have been discarded by gahment but choose to stay cause of their affinity...I have lots of friends out there like you and I treasure them
On the other hand, I also have seen and talked to people who are like me, no affinity whatsoever.....and they choose to take that plunge...remember our forefathers are also migrants and you probably would not be here if they chose to keep with their affinity to China, India etc
Am just merely offering my suggestions that there is a whole big world out there....besides I am sure not all would just 'escape' at the slightest hint of adversity. There are also those who have checked their own backyard and done their research but have not affinity anymore.....like me -
yup.. there's a whole world out there!
if you can't find what you dream about here, go forth and find it!
it's no use wasting your life here if you feel it's draining you mentally and physically... go do your research and find that life you want to live!
