Is Singapore Getting Overpopulated?

This question, of course, is contrary to the govt's plans to hit a population of what... 6 million??
If I'm not wrong, we currently have 4.5 million now.
And if you look around, our resources are almost bursting at the seams already! Look at how insanely (and uncomfortably, and stinkingly) crowded our trains and our buses get during peak hours!!
I'm going to dig up statistics on population density, if possible.
In the meantime, I'm just glad that I'm leaving this place and won't stand the chance of being edged off the coastlines of the island-state!
I'll be quoting a few Club 30 peeps here, cause some really good points were brought up in our discussion in our Jive Pad.

Let's talk about lack of parking space and traffic jams due to too many cars and the government thinking that putting up more ERP gantrys will ease the traffic.

A lot of developed countries are facing that
Maybe one day we will become like Japan where the kids are so demoralised at school because they feel even by having a good education won't get them anywhere so they might as well not try as they see their future as bleak.
People don't wanna have kids because that means you have to sacrifice your current lifestyle and also kids = additional expenses.
Also with people working day and night everyday, not many will want to sacrifice their rest time as well. -

One way to solve the current MRT ultra high loading is to reintroduce the old bus svs at the downstream areas nearer to CBD such as at Clementi, Bedok, Ang Mo Kio and Toa Payoh. And, you're absolutely right! Brace yourself for more foreign workers! Someday, it will no longer be easy for the govt to assure us that they are not depriving us of our jobs because they will no longer be here just for blue-collar jobs that our locals shun, but they will compete with us for the white-collar jobs too! Just wait and see... it will happen.
And then, when that time comes, there will be another decrease-the-CPF-Employer-Contribution-Rate exercise.
And then, there will be some productivity campaign to hopefully 'boost the morale' of the general populace (like who cares about productivity when you're focusing on bread-and-butter issues?!)...
And then, they're gonna have some massive propaganda exercise to encourage Singaporeans to tighten their belts and weather the stormy seas as one, just work hard and not be so demanding when it comes to remuneration, whilst they continue to be comfortable on their peanuts pay...
And in the meantime, you'll be reminded of how much the govt is doing for you, so that hopefully, it'll take your mind off how much they are NOT doing... -

It's not just expensive, the poor kids will be subject to stress at a very young age! We're afterall surrounded with perfect examples of Stepford parents who want to give their kids 'the best' and become extremely competitive. Nosiree!! My kid's not going to lug back a fat bag on wheels full of tons of homework that mommy and daddy have to help with after a long, hard day at work!
My kiddo is going to have lots of playtime just being a kid! Homework shouldn't dictate the lives of the poor kiddos and their parents!
In other words, I don't think that 'Quality Time' means time spent sitting with your child, helping him/her with the homework!
