Covered more grounds than I would have thought it out myself. All the more confirm the saying that "third party view looking in". Like I may be all nice and wise but when things actually happen to me, I seem to be blinded. A cloud of doubts and fear.
And *drum rolls*.............YES.......I will take the challenge! Going to give it a shot and then take it from there.
Before I go, I just want to say something from my heart. I like to point out that reading Rhonda's post gave me the same encouragement and inspiration that I felt when I was getting set to emigrate. Having said that, I do not discount the other posts. They were good/true pointers.
However, uprooting or changes are not easy (especially when one gets older
). It takes a lot and when you hang out with people who discourages you, it can be damaging. But my best friend was able to pick me up, then. And THAT feeling, I have experienced it again, from Rhonda. Thanks a gazillion, Rhonda. God Bless!

Sorry, I'm a little late.....
I run the Asia-Pacific branch of a European company and I work from both the office (cum warehouse) and home. I'd very much work from home if possible as I have the discipline to control myself....eg. I first work for two hours before watching TV and sleeping the next two hours.
And besides being able to work in just my underwear (which is real comfortable), I save on time and petrol money (I drive a guzzler).
Sometimes I'm at my office/warehouse, sometimes at home, sometimes half-half, sometimes overseas (I make 1~2 trips per month on the average). Sometimes I work from swimming pool and gym downstairs too
I know of some people who know that they don't have the discipline to work from home and would rather not - cos they know they'll be doing nothing and will lose their jobs. They need to dress up and work in an office under supervision. Stupid people!
Was gonna tell you to examine your own character and hopefully find yourself suitable for it and try it out....but it looks like you've already made the decision. Congratulations on the excellent choice!
The only disadvantage I can think of is that after getting used to working from home, you'll never be able to work in a big company with colleagues, fixed timings, etc, again. Its so sickening to follow timings, see all the office politics, etc. When you're used to working from home, commuting to the office is a stress in itself! I've been working independently for 8~9 years now and will have difficulties adjusting back to normal office life (if I ever have to).
(Before this present company, I used to run a regional rep office for a US public listed company.....also working from both office and home).
Another plus for me working from home is that I'm able to watch my sexy neighbour washing her car on some days, always around 10 am. Wah lau...when she stretches out to clean the windscreen..... -

gentlerock, you made me laugh out loud with the description of you walking around at home in your underwear, doing work!
I can imagine myself doing the same too!
Off with da clothes and let us all go to work wearing something 'a little more comfortable'!
Anyways, imagine, I can wake up in the morning, and enjoy a glass of CHOYA cocktail in the late morning of right after lunch with absolutely no implications, yippeeee!!
And, no need to put on any makeup, and can even slap on a mask whilst doing work! Really not bad!
Can also keep MSN Messenger on and disturb others as a pleasant distraction - sweetens the bitter pill of work! hehehe! -
I like the thought of saving on transport costs, taking breaks whenever I want and staying away from office bugs more often.

And thank you.........and no, you are not late. It is still in the preliminary stage. Got to get the hardware (lap top & printer) and stuff organized. And I was told to keep mum about it as management foresee problems arising from the other co-workers. Apparently, it is very appealing to many!!! I thank God for this blessings!!!
You know? Chances are I may forget certain pointers in this thread. I should really print it off and stick it in my study lest I slack!!!!
In fact, I like Bear mentioning about snacking which is so easy to do. Just go grab a bag of chips and sit in front of the TV, oops, pardon me, I meant PC! My counter measure will be to use the gazelle in my basement diligently!!! (inner devilish voice "yah, right!")
The excitement of this change is slowly building (you can tell what a sedate life I have been having .) Ah......I am just a simple person with simple pleasures!!!

Wah...I wished all job applicants were like you, never ask about salary or benefits one!! Actually, this gives me an idea: I could offer to my interviewees some Choya just before the interview to make them more easygoing when bargaining for pay.

Here are some reasons to love working from home!
1. Sleeping in until 8.59 & still getting to work on time.
2. Listening to a golden oldies radio station without defending your choice of music
3. Having lunch on the balcony, instead of in the food court.
4. Avoid banking queues by going there at 11am.
5. Cat-naps whenever you want.
6. Discount haircuts / facials / massages etc on weekday afternoons (so good! )
7. Meeting your office mates for lunch & mentioning that you're off shopping as they head back to the office (hey, you can do all this as long as u hand in your required work by the deadline rite? )
Enjoy, enjoy! So when do you start? -
