immigration is something neccessary and a good thing, but I see mexicans waving mehico flags in the US and cringe ... I firmly believe that allegience to the country, to the society you're living in, should be a prerequisite for living in and enjoying the benefits of that society,... not that one must be forced to be loyal to Singapore of course, but if one moves to another society, then I suppose, kinship and memories aside, one must be prepared to shoulder the burdens of living in that society, the citizen's burden if you may ....
you know there's a joke going on down in mehico, that claim that they'll take over the whole of the united states and shove all the gringos out in 50 years ? .... Chinese boat peoples and such are different, they sink roots into the US, they volunteer in the armed services, they pledge allegience to the US, not so the latins in the US right now ..... do you know Samuel P. Huntington ? ... the Harvard prof who wrote "clash of civilizations" and pissed all the muslims off ? .... his latest book deals with the latin wave in the US society today ... it makes for depressing reading .....
so there ... perhaps I'm an idealist, but I firmly believe in this citizen's burden, which ever country one lives in, not neccessarily one's place of birth of course, but heck ... loyalty and patriotism should not be dirty words at all ...

Well....it is true that many of the latin and muslim immigrants to other countries, not just the US, make little or no effort to fit in their new homes and instead impose their lifestyles/values onto their host country and make unreasonale demands.

racism is everywhere, personal experience talking here .... but heck, sometimes, I can kind of understand why they behave the way they do, it's not about different cultures, but about values .... and some groups of immigrants do practise double standards .... take some practitioners of a certain religion for example, the boys are allowed complete freedoms outside, and they are often the havoc kings, selling weed, causing troubles in clubs, bonking females, while they expect their daughters to be the chaste, homely girls of the last century .... (some are still forced to put on certain covering garments) .... if a group of chaps goes to a club, gets overly drunk, disturb female patrons, ... would a club owner let them back in the next time ? .... of course not ... but hey ! ... people start screaming racism and discrimination then ! ...
... (the best part of course, is that they get so antsy and defensive when talking about their religion) ....
everyone should take a look at themselves every now and then .... -
