No-Plastic Bag Day in Hong Kong

i would say that it's a great movement, seeing how much plastic waste is generated for bags...
also, i see many people asking for more plastic bags for God knows what reason..
recently, my organisation gave us each a heavy cloth bag for use if we do shopping.. that's good! however, how many people would use it? they'd rather go empty handed and get plastic carriers... which will probably be thrown away later...
i try my darnest not to use plastic bags when i can, rather tossing my purchases into my own sling bag...
i see changes.. a few years ago, when i did that, the packers or cashiers at the supermarkets or shops used to look at me as if i was a nutcase, but now, they're actually smiling and telling me that what i'm doing is good
could we also have a No-Plastic Bag Day here? would it be successful?
we really could reduce the amount of disposable bags used in singapore.. goodness knows mother earth could only approve -
itll take lots of effort to educate the consumers and the commercial establishments...
possible, but difficult. the 'disposable' mentality has already set in. -
ntuc is encouraging people to buy the bags.
btw who wants to carry a bag out just for buying groceries? -
No plastic bag use paper bags lor.

when i was in an european country, the supermarts dun issue free plastic bags because all the people there are used to bring along their own shopping bags and trolleys to carry the stuffs. when i first bought something there, i was standing there and expect the cashier to put the things into a plastic bag for me which she didnt. i ask for one plastic bag and she said i have to pay for it. so i pay for the plastic bag and felt like an idiot. haha

But so far I do know NTUC has the worst service and also, uses plastic bag very wasteful as well

The incentive for Singaporeans to use fewer plastic bags isn't enough. They value convenience than environmental issues, and they'd either complain that not giving them bags constitutes bad service, or simply pay for it.
I say ban the distribution of plastic bags altogether. If they want dustbin liners, buy them in bulk. -
yeah....in Japan...u pay for dustbin plastic liners and the plastic bags in the groceries shop are not free.
singapore shld start to have this habit too
