Eateries Serving Items That Aren't Fresh

i like prawns in my horfun fresh & "bouncy"... but sometimes they use big & old prawns... see liao nua nua... bite liao neng neng.. no appetite at all.

well ok,i seldom have chilli sauce with lime,but if it is there,it is a different kinda sourish.sourish cause of using lime taste tangy and refreshing but this kinda sourish i am tasted has a bad aftertaste and also most of the time i will take a snif, it will have that slight chao seng smell that is unmistakable.Originally posted by Rhonda:Chicken Rice chilli sauce is sourish. I really think that they reuse since they usually have a large bowl of it and i doubt it will be used up everyday so i really think most hawkers reuse chilli sauce that has being left from yesterday or maybe more days b4 -
you can't expect too much from them Rhonda .... it's this Singapore "disease" .... one that afflicts our society ... we have this over emphasis on authority that everyone is afraid to make any independent dicisions at all, hence everyone tries to shift the decision (and the blame) upwards ....
the server doesn't want to be seen giving a free drink .... to a customer, the manager is stuck because his job description didn't tell him how to handle such requests, but did tell him to maximize profits ... so there .....
oh well .... -
Something similar happened to me also. It took place in some cafe I have eaten in that place a couple of times before so i know their standard. I ordered seafood dish i think, when my order came and took a bite of it it , I knew it was not fresh at all. I told the waitress and she took it away. She came back reporting to me that they found no problems with it and told me to pick another dish of a similar price. No apology,nothing.Obviously they could taste that seafood is not fresh at all.Rhonda, I think its more like saving their "face" and they will never admit its their fault.

hmm..... i kind of sympathise with rhonda.... well intentions of not wanting to drink/eat spolit drink/food and dun wan others to eat/drink spolit drink/food but genna thought 'trying to b funny'.... hmm.... very gek sim.....
some people thought that singaporeans are 'complain kings/queens'... but then, there are also a 'silent majority' who just 'leave things as they are'.... 'cant b bothered/too lazy'..... i used to be the later as well... but then, u realised that u have to stand up for what u believe in.....

I think the last time was at some hawker centre and I bought a canned drink that has gone back.
The uncle changed it for me though he kept complaining that there is nothing wrong with the taste
Other than that, it's prawns that are not fresh

I've made waiters/staff send food back to the kitchen before. Sure I run the risk of the cook spitting into my food but I'll be damned if I'm going to pay for under/overcooked food, or worse, stale food. I've also complained about serving portions before.
And in most cases, the staff do not apologise but give you that kind of look. What, am I supposed to eat undercooked chicken???
My office canteen takes the cake though. Chances are that the same chicken you see on monday will be the same chicken you see on friday. Ditto for all their meat dishes. They're just re-cooked in a different manner throughout the week unless they're sold out. We vote with our wallets and feet and eat out instead. -
of all things that are served not fresh...worst would be when it comes to seafood...esp fish and prawns...yucks

I send food back if they're off or have turned bad, regardless of where I'm eating, cheap or pricey. Customer service is subjective, but food condition, the very basic requirement of being served EDIBLE, safe-to-eat food, is non-negotiable.
Most times I get a reasonable response from the vendor. I would ask them / the cook to taste it. And I always get the dish replaced.
I'm surprised that people keep quiet about inedible food because "they don't want to argue with the vendor".... in the first place, why would you immediately assume that to bring up a food condition problem would guarantee you a quarrel on your hands?
It's no biggie really, I think if you talk to the vendor nicely they can work out a satisfactory solution for you. -
wah... last time when i was workin with burger king, any customer return with a burger like no sauce (when there's sauce) or weird tasting coke whateva... we get the a fresh one wor.. no questions asked.
if its the coke, we'd drink it first lar... cos sometimes they say no gas or taste funny.. den if its not right we change the whole carton from behind de...
i only order vanilla mos shake at mos burgers -
My mom, aunt, and I ate at a five-star hotel once. This hotel had a Nyonya Buffet that was quite popular.
That evening, they had orh luak so we all shared one plate of it. To our shock, when we bit into the oysters, we knew it wasn't fresh at all! And this, in a five-star hotel!! 
I swallowed my oyster since there was no paper napkin for me to spit into indiscriminately. All three of us kena bad food poisoning, with me being the champion toilet runner amongst us.
We were all fuming mad and I insisted that mom call up the hotel to lodge a complaint. However, because we used to dine there pretty frequently, mom kinda hesitated because she said though we all suffered food poisoning, I was the only one who got it bad enough to see a doc whilst the two of them just let it run its course! I was soooooo angry but I was too weak to take action myself.
Basically, mom didn't want to be perceived as a troublesome customer! I mean, what the!!! Kena poisoned by oysters gone bad and too pai seh to complain?! She also said, what if we were the only ones to complain out of the entire dinner crowd?

Once, I got so pissed at being treated like I was someone troublesome when the food had obviously gone bad that I told them to their face to eat it in front of me and let's see if they don't get food poisoning.
Basically, I think that no restaurant wants to serve stale food because sometimes, the cook might not even know that the food has gone bad because of bad organisation in the kitchen and because of staff overlooking good food hygiene practices. I also understand that sometimes, restaurants can be understaffed and can't possibly be that vigilant, unless you're eating in some five-star establishment and paying top dollar.
However, I think cheap or not, no food establishment should be allowed to get away with serving food turned rancid!!
Actually, restaurants should be relieved that customers approach them to tell them about stale food rather than lodge complaints directly with the authorities cause that will mean spot checks if a substantial number complain about them and it not only mars their repute, it might put their licence at jeopardy.
If I approach them directly and they remedy the situation, fine, it stops at that. Win-win situation.
Why make the customer feel bad for serving him/her rotten food?!

Y'know, that no questions asked policy is good cause sometimes, the customers already feel pretty embarrassed having to go up to the counter to return bad food. Some people have to sit there and gather their courage to do something like that one!
Hopefully, it's not just no questions asked, but no making of faces or conspiratorial body language between the staff as well! You know what I mean, right? -

Actually, if you pay your employees peanuts, erm...not THAT kinda peanuts but the real peanuts that most of us earn , you can't expect highly-motivated staff, in a way.
I mean, look at the poor people working in the food industry, always overworked, have to subject themselves to unreasonable complaints and criticisms, usually understaffed, and very poor wages!
If people work hard, but still have to struggle with their monthly bill payments at the end of the month, and live a hand-to-mouth existence, you can't really expect them to be all groovy and dancin' around at work! -

I can accept that some people rather just grin and bear food gone bad rather than get it rectified.
What I get irritated over are people who ridicule and mock you when you get something rectified -- when the solution benefits THEM as well
