actually ... that list there reminds me of another favourite book of mine ....Originally posted by av98m:Ah, to kill a mockingbird is a very nice read. Through the eyes of Scout Finch, we see a wide range of human/social behaviour.
Hypocrisy
Racism
Religious Bigotry
Self Righteousnes
Prejudice
Intolerance
and the list goes on. There are many themes and morals that one can use to teach young children in this book, I feel. Like why Atticus(Scout's father) does not tell anyone, even his own children, that he is deadly accurate with a gun, and why he decided to take a case no other laywer will dare touch, etc. We also take a look at what it means to have an education, how one should make an effort to understand one's neighbours etc
If I ever have kids I'll be teaching them using this book for sure. Thanks, Harper Lee!
Whoa!!Originally posted by Fatum:actually ... that list there reminds me of another favourite book of mine ....
"East of Eden" by John Steinbeck ....
it's his magnum opus ... his crowning glory ... his only full length novel, and it's got everything you've listed above ... it examines what is good, and bad, and what is inherent within us ... I like it so much i bought 6 copies to be given out as birthday gifts the year I read it ....
is there a movie made on this book ? ... I haven't watch it yet ...Originally posted by Rhonda:Fatum and av... do you feel that the movie did justice to the book "To Kill a Mockingbird"?
The movie adaption was pretty good I felt! The casting was very well done, acting was good. The part where Scout finally meets Boo Radley was sooo touching!Originally posted by Rhonda:Fatum and av... do you feel that the movie did justice to the book "To Kill a Mockingbird"?
Its a pretty old film, in black and white. Excellent stuff. I think the actor who played Atticus Finch won an award for his role.Originally posted by Fatum:is there a movie made on this book ? ... I haven't watch it yet ...

Oooooohhhhhhh I've heard of her. She's HOT!!!Originally posted by Rhonda:Nigella Lawson's first book had been republished... and then disappeared off the shelves of our bookstores AGAIN! Despite it's hefty price of $60-70, it's still selling like hot cakes!
Nigella! Nigella!!
One of Britain's popular cooks with her own TV cooking show, she's almost sensual in dealing with food.
She's also proclaimed in a recent woman's mag, "I haven't dated a man who wanted a skinny girl!"
Her book, "How to be a Domestic Goddess" caught my attention and made me stop abruptly in my tracks to flip through the book at Borders.
Nigella is herself a Goddess alright!
Oh, btw, this is a cookbook, pai seh.
I can give you one of my copies lah.Originally posted by Rhonda:Fatum and av, you guys make me really wanna read that book now!
