Years back, I remember reading in one of them self-help books (perhaps one of Tony Buzan's?
) that it can be a good idea to read multiple books simultaneously because it helps to get you out of a rut if you hit it in any one book, and it can train your mind to improve its memory capabilities. I think it can also enhance your multi-tasking skills too, and it forces your mind to neatly compartmentalise the various input gathered from the books at the same time.
In other words, doing so can be like exercising your brain.
I used to do that, reading up to four books at the same time. Then, as I got busier with work and life, I started to stick to just one book.
Recently, having hit a rut with the book I'm currently reading, "The Perfectionist", which is proving to be quite a challenge to read, I've decided to return to my habit of reading multiple books simultaneously and have chosen the chick-lit "The Undomestic Goddess" by Sophia Kinsley to balance out the seriousness and more sombre mood of the other book.
Just wondering, who has this habit of reading a few books at the same time too? What do you think of this practice?
