Over the years I've had various collections of things that I told myself were serious collections as an excuse not to throw them away, and other things that I have no idea what happened to them.
The only true collection that I had was stamps. It was a small collection but I got it from my Grandfather and that made it special. Not special enough to know what happened to it though. My father collects stamps now and has quite a large collection. I think he keeps the USPS running with his stamp purchases.
I collected baseball cards.(i'm American) I really didn't care about the cards but they were free with that crappy dried out gum. We used to clip the cards to the forks on our bicycles with clothespins to make a cool(we thought) noise as we rode.
I collected Playboy magazines for a few years. Again not so much of a collection but at $3.00 +/- a piece I had quite a bit of money invested in them just to throw them away. I wound up throwing them away....I still miss Miss December 1974
Now days I have a good sized collection of unpaid medical bills.
I have a 219-piece Stanley auto mechanic tool set that has served me well through the years. Like Craftsman, Stanley has a "no questions asked" lifetime replacement warranty on their tools. However, whereas you can just walk into any Sears store and have them replace a defective/broken Craftsman tool, Stanley requires that you mail the tool to them for warranty replacement. A bit of a hassle, but fortunately I've never had to return a Stanley tool, yet!
Americans seem to take their baseball card collections very seriously. My college roommate claimed he had amassed over 40,000 cards in his collection. I thought he was exaggerating--until he invited me to his home one spring break and showed me all the shoeboxes that housed his cards. My jaw dropped--in fact, it turned out the 40,000 estimate was a little on the
low side when he did a recount!
This was over 15 years ago, and I'm sure his collection has grown since then.
Surely you collected the Playboy magazines for their thought-provoking, informative and well-written articles and editorials, right?
As for myself, I collect animé and firearms.
