Cool to be cynical, jaded and bored?

there seems to be a strange thing going on out there...
people choose to be cynical, deriding everything as "boring"... when someone is slack-jawed in wonder at a new discovery, the person is looked down upon as "idiotic, naive, stupid..."
wallowing in their own misery seems to be "cooler" than getting off their asses and going out to try and be happy.. happy people are looked on as, like the person who allows himself to be awestruck, he is thought of as "stupid"
being bored and complaining about it without doing anything, behaving as if the world owes them entertainment, is okay while those who get up, go out and look for simple pleasures, to choose to be amazed by the world, to find happiness, are "silly, naive sheep"
something is wrong isn't it?
is choosing not to become negative so wrong these days that being positive and deciding to be optimistic and daring to hope is seen as a character flaw?
what is your take on this, because i'm pretty disturbed...
cynicism is the beginning of losing all hope.. and when all hope is lost, we lose our humanity... -
"Be practical." I hear this a lot when someone dreams of making it big, especially in a non-mainstram field.
I guess it's up to the dreamer to play deaf. -

i think there should be a balance. But people are often the way they are because of their personal experiences. Who's to decide whats "good" and what's "not"?
Besides, picking something to be happy over, is subjective. If there is something u fundamentally disagree with, its rather hypocritical to be happy about it. -

I mean, let it be. Let people think whatever they want, however they like. If they find that being negative is THE way to be then hmm, as long as they don't give me any inconvenience then I won't bother them. Unless they're people close to me, then I'll step in with a citrus burst of sunshine! 
Hopefully I don't end up giving them lemons instead. -

The cynical is cool probably comes from
"been there done that" "there is nothing new under the sun"
kind of philosophy.
It is like, to be excited is to acknowledge that one has not been there done that and fail to see that "there is nothing new under the sun."
Another way of saying I am sophisticated.
So actually it stems from low self esteem. -
Well, usually it happens when people start to think that others owe them a living, as well as part and parcel of growing up for the young 'uns. I don't like to wallow in misery and I don't think that everything is boring, stupid etc etc but I agree that I do get cynical but I guess it's because of being jaded with the rat race and seeing sharks everywhere

Seriously though, I've yet to come across a cynic who isn't a scared, helpless little creature underneath all of those defensive layers. They're the ones who don't seem to be able to get how cool the discovery of new things is.
One of the most fun jobs I've ever had was as a social worker looking after kids, because I got to accompany them through the discovery process and do it all over again for myself. Jamais vu is a seriously underrated pleasure. -
hehe yeahh.. its the angsty teenhood.. some people don't outgrow it though and yeah, thanks to media, a lot of people think misery gives them character and whining is cool.
While I am not angsty any longer.. or cynical or jaded...Hmm at least I dont think so...
I do get a bit irritated with the EXTREME-SUNSHINEY-LIFE-TREATS-ME-SO-GOOD type of people.. who come into office chirping 'GOooOooOD MorNNNiiiNNG!!!!' on a Monday morning type and always so self satisfactorily contented with life... "sigh what to do? I pretty and intelligent... bound to have such problems one..." -

in the end tho, its their right to life their life the way they want it. do we have a right to deride them? Afterall, didn't the Bear question if those cynical people have the right to deride other people who're not jaded n cynical?
