This is something I've come to realise... and love about Melbourne too! People here don't give snap judgements about you based solely on your outward appearance whereas back in Singapore, that's almost the norm.Originally posted by Gedanken:That's a tough break. Can't say I've had that experience in Oz, although when I'm on holiday back in Singapore quite a number of sales staff have ignored me in favour of someone who was better dressed.

It's good that u have the thoughts of migrating to Australia, I just came back from a trip to Victoria and I love the lifestyle that they are living..
How to get a PR in Australia.
1. Skilled worker - In this case is quite hard
2. Study Full-Time 4 semsters/16months in Australia - Chances higher
3. Nurse/Doctor - Extremely good chance
For me, I have to take the 3rd option.. I'm not a skilled person. No $ to study in Australia. So i decided to take up nursing sponsorship next year and with the experience that i'll serve out the bond.. I can go Australia and be a registered Nurse.
You may not like the idea of being a nurse BUT let me share the benefits with U...

why do I find it disturbing that you're thinking of being a nurse just so that you can migrate there and have a cushy life ? ...Originally posted by tokyofire:hi robokop,

Fatum, reality check - LOTS of nurses here become nurses not because of a 'higher calling' but because it's a profession that offers flexibility and pays well. I first realised that during my short clinical attachment in the US and now, that idea continues to prevail.Originally posted by Fatum:why do I find it disturbing that you're thinking of being a nurse just so that you can migrate there and have a cushy life ? ...
you know, I personally think of nursing as a noble, life-saving profession, it's a calling, and should always be so ... I hope you will honestly think of what it means to be a nurse and decide it's really what you want to do, and treat it as an end in itself, not a means to another end .....
become an accountant, a chef, a technician or whatever they need there if going over is what you want ... but not a nurse please .... you're holding people's lives in your hands ....
And if you get out after being buried alive, you could make a few million talking to Channel Nine.Originally posted by whitsundays:Hi all, if you are keen on migrating to australia, why don't you consider mining as your career/job. It is not an easy job. The working hours is long and you live in a rural environment. However the wages you receive is a lot more compared to an experience nurse.

The Singapore nurses are only paid $45 extra for weekday night shifts and $55 extra for weekend / public holiday night shifts nia. That's all!Originally posted by tokyofire:Dear Rhonda,
Our Nurses(local) are underpaid as compare to others 1st world countries. If you realised that the foreign Nurses are not Staff Nurses, so you can see how underpaid they are.
I am not sure if our local nurses are paid allowances for shift work..

but i am quite worried about "fitting in" - for example racism. Are there any other "non-Ang Moh" countries that are good for migration?
i dunno about other countries beside australia..if u r below 30 u get more points...Originally posted by sgquitter:looking for a way out.
Is age a problem too? What is a "good age" for migration? 30s is best?
Have you been to these countries?Originally posted by scabstermooch:Singapore is a place to visit, not a place to set down roots (imo).
I would like to migrate to the UK or Canada. Wherever I migrate to, it must have the 4 seasons.
Singapore is too damn boring. One needs the seasons to revilatlise one's senses. In england, I would look up at the sky in spring and think to myself "dammit, this is a beautiful world".
