The "pop corn" texture on the ceiling can accelerate mold and mildew formation in humid climates due to the increased the amount of surface area. I have it on my ceilings and there are a few spots here and there with mildew.
It's also a b*tch to paint, as both rollers and brushes can't lay down a smooth coat. -

MG, I talked to a pop corn ceiling remover guy. His estimate was $1600 including texturizing, sealing and painting. He says since my new place was built before 78, I have to get an asbestos remover guy in first. Piangz! Beginning to rethink this and live with it. Asbestos? Yikes!
