I'm still in the stage where most of the shopping is for :
1) winter coats (preferably with faux fur here and there, of course! );
2) household stuff and kitchen stuff;
3) FOOD; and
4) Books and mags
Everywhere is blardy far away. I've done enough walking here for the entire year liao! I don't even walk 1/3 this much during the same period back home! I walk to most places now and I'm amazed at the distance I can cover on me horseypower!
So, I haven't exactly settled down enough to go explore beyond my familiar 'territories' like Victoria Gardens, Target, Myers, Borders, Readers' Feast, K-Mart, Coles, and the Victoria Street shops. I'm looking at the day tours available in Melbourne though and will go book myself on one or two of these soon!
BUT, I will do so soon. In the meantime, I love the pho at Victoria Street, the Japanese food at Gigi Restaurant along Collins, the Singaporean food at Singapore Chom Chom (where I go to whenever I feel homesick and need a lard-laden boost ), the Guo Tie at the Shanghai Resturant in Victoria St, and the quasi-Jap/Korean food at Tokyo Sushi along Bridge Rd.
I'm gathering a few similarly restless and curious colleagues to go watch movies on Tuesdays when it's much cheaper, and will be asking around to see who else is interested in the day tours I'm eyeing.
BTW, I still like The Straits Times. I find that there's more of an international coverage there. The newspapers here are kinda more ... myopic in scope. They don't do world news coverage very well, sadly.
It's frustrating... a lot of places I wanna go, I can't get to because I don't drive YET and don't own a blardy car and that's why I end up making countless trips to and from the shops lugging stuff back home.
And oh, my colleagues just had a good laugh when I described to them how much difficulties I ran into just to construct my own furniture (cause it's cheaper than buying ready-made ones over here) and someone older (but I'm not sure is wiser) declared, "Hey, women aren't meant to construct furniture! I just buy ready-made!" Oh well, my workmanship ain't perfect... but at least, the pieces I've set up are still standing tall and sturdy!

You people in Singapore, appreciate your kopitiams and food courts and Swenson's and Fish & Co, and Secret Recipe, etc etc, ok! Eating out is costly here (although the portions are much larger).
On the plus side, I love my little kitchen so much that I've been cooking and bringing food to work for my dinner as often as I can.
Whilst there are still places here where you can get a slice of pizza for just $1.50, it's not the same as the lovely and very cheap food you all get there!

And oh, I bought my first bottle of CHOYA liao! Haven't even opened it yet because I'm waiting for a special occasion to do so! I'm going to travel back to town again soon and lug home those big bottles of Pokka drinks from one of the big asian grocery shops in Chinatown so I can make my CHOYA cocktails!
It's funny... you know, not having eaten greasy, lard-laden food for what... two months already, last week when I discovered this 'Singapore Chom Chom' restaurant in town and ate Bak Chor Mee, the greasiness didn't agree with my stomach, man! 2nd day I returned to eat Char Kway Teow, same thing happened! But 3rd day when I went to eat Laksa, not so bad liao! I think I must now and then tuck into 'wholesome comfort food' so that when I return early next year and feast with you guys, I can tahan the greasy makan!
Going to get a microfilter so I can use that phone too but I can't remember the number -

You know, I"m like sooo dependent on my phone now I felt lost and couldn't sleep last night -
Tamade... felt like going shopping but then suddenly remembered that most shops in the neighbourhood mall close at 5:30 or 6:30pm. So many times I've just warmed up to my shopping only to find that they're all closing liao!
And oh, it gets dark by 5 or 5:30pm nowadays. -

Y'know, it's amazing but DVD's can be sooooo cheap here during sales! Can get better deals here than in Singapore even!
And every week, $3-5 is set aside for a bunch of flowers to brighten up the living room. Very swee!! -

Anyways, I plan to go on day trips in Melbourne to explore the outlying suburbs soon! I think saving up for a PC and broadband connnection, then saving up for driving lessons and a car would be my priority now. I'm tired of assembling my own furniture so the sidetable and bookshelves idea will be shelved for now.
ANd the Myers sale was really disappointing. They were just tryign to get rid of stuff. It certainly wasn't some 'history-making sale', as claimed! -

Hubby & I were just discussing cost of food in Singapore vs. Sydney, both when eating out or buying groceries. We find that whilst eating out is more exp. in Sydney, buying your own groceries & cooking turns out to be much cheaper than if you were to do so in Sg!
