Playing Baby-Sitter, redux ....

Okie ... baby sat for the third time this morning .....
let's just say that I'm re-evaluating the number of little Fatums I want to have in the future ......
it's amazing what little terrors 3 year olds can be .....
she refused to eat, doesn't listen to me, threw things around, made a mess of everything, and went ahead and did what ever I told her not to ...
I'm sure I can handle 3am bottle feedings and poopy diapers, but I'm not sure I can handle a terror tike for prolonged periods of time ....
how do you think a difficult child should be handled ? ....

I tried threatening to tell her daddy about her misdeeds, I tried ignoring her when she's naughty .....
little children can be so exasperating ... and I definitely do not have the patience to deal with terror tykes .... -
i have a prelieminary plan
after baby is born, go overseas to work a few years (spouse stays back of course), and come back when the kid is around 4-5 yr. This is where I can start shaping and moulding my kid

little children can be so exasperating ... and I definitely do not have the patience to deal with terror tykes .... By plying her with treats, the sugar in her system will win each and every time. I used to teach preschool and kids at that age have very short attention spans. Try engaging her in several activities, giving about 20 mins per activity. At 3, kids enjoy play-doh, water play and toys with textures. They love to dance (get your hands on a Sharon, Bram and Lois casette, great upbeat kiddie songs) and play dress up. Puzzles, books, colouring and drawing are also activities they enjoy. HTHs. -

i once attended a seminar on personal counselling, of course the topics sometimes diverge into family issues
The speaker mentioned there are many ways to coach kids, some of them including being firm, using reciprocal actions etc
Being firm
If the child continue to mess up the place, repeatedly say 'Dont throw your things on the floor' a few times, maintain a serious eye contact, you may wag your finger, and maintain this posture for a period of time.
Soon the little tyke will know you are serious and firm, and wont continue.
Reciprocal action
Do what the child basically do, if she doesnt like it, tell her she did it too. If she doesnt like what you did, then she shouldnt too
There are many ways. Go ask a parent or read a book or something -

If a kid is hyper, never ever give them sugar
I don't know to handle kids but someone told me how you will handle your kid will be exactly how you handle your dog, coz a dog is really like a young kid.
Anyway I think my kid (if I have one) will be in for a nasty surprise if he/she is naughty coz I'm extremely firm with my dogs. My way, or no way plus punishment (I don't smack my dogs though, I just take away what they like, like no snacks/walks/dinner, and yes I take away their toys too) -
