I caught one of those remoras surf-casting from the shore at a beach near desaru, a local villager at the beach there told me it probably came off a large passing shark !!! ....

the vamp octopus has these 2 'fin' things on its head.. waving them.. very cute
anyway, the oarfish is a huge fish
talking about large fish, here's a basking shark.. the decomposing carcass has been thought to be a plesiosaur as it is about 30 feet
anyway, back to the weird fish.. the strangest are always the deep sea fish which have to be weird to survive in the extreme environment.. check out more weird-ass deep sea anglers

I have actually caught the Remora before too.. err during my Still-Fishing days... It was really cool.. Can't take my eyes off the 'footprint' as Elindra says.
Hee yeah! Lurve cephalapods and fishies and all.... but.. Hmmm.... Sigh.. i dont know how leh. I LIKE to see them, documentaries and everything
but also am terrified of them. Dont know when I will overcome my phobia of big fish and finally take my PADI.
Maybe I shd just eat more fish. Marines and Marinades. HMmm YumS.

shro-cat, my sister's dive people took people who were afraid of big fish before... and they were certified the right way with NAUI...

I haven't seen any mantas or whalesharks yet ... trips for them were always duds ...
biggest critter would be a 7-foot leopard shark off sattahip, Thailand ... got some blurry pics on my MX-10 .... -

I haven't had too much contact with the big stuff, I'm the kind to go look for small creatures though.
But seriously, the biggest menaces you will face on any diving trip are not big fish(they're mostly harmless), but rather, other divers, boats etc. -

Yeah Hubby was telling me better to join NAUI too.. he also was interested in diving... so we might take it up together.
Heard tt NAUI more emphasis on safety right? Hmmmm mebbe more sssoootable for me..... I am a very blur and scaredy cat.... will the divemaster help u check ur eq ALL THE TIME huh.. i scared i blur then.. u know.. all the.. things u suppose to click open and click close i forget...

when I see Giant Grouper at Underwater World.. my heart starts to thumpthumpthump leh... the Rays too..... You have to take a certain amount of responsibility for yourself, the divemaster cannot check on you 100% of the time. Just monitor your air consumption and stay within the specified depth and don't wander off by yourself, you'll be all right.
There was this time I was the divemaster for my group, one diver grabbed my arm so tight my circulation almost got cut off.
I'm so rusty now, I probably can't even remember how to put my gear together
I see giant groupers all the time when in Malaysia, and like the evil bear, think of claypot fish head and stuff when I see them
