Eh so scary lehhhh....heheheh... GIant Groupers... how big one.. like the one in Underwater World.. tts like.. 1 m long??!!!Originally posted by av98m:Actually hor, the divemaster will be more scared than you if you are so scared You have to take a certain amount of responsibility for yourself, the divemaster cannot check on you 100% of the time. Just monitor your air consumption and stay within the specified depth and don't wander off by yourself, you'll be all right.
There was this time I was the divemaster for my group, one diver grabbed my arm so tight my circulation almost got cut off.
I'm so rusty now, I probably can't even remember how to put my gear together
I see giant groupers all the time when in Malaysia, and like the evil bear, think of claypot fish head and stuff when I see them

SSI is definitely NOT like NAUI, it's not even close to PADI in terms of recognition.Originally posted by ShrodingersCat:Hee the piglet one is very very cute!!!
I'm have a particular thingy for cephalapods - cuttlefish, octos.. so cutteeeeeeeee they are. Out of this world!
Hey divers.. is NAUI same like SSI certification?
Hubby and I will go do the sailing course first.. then mebbe next will do tt... now tt he is going to start new job without shift work!!!
OK, I have to step in on this one. Can we stop the fucking agency mudslinging? PADI, NAUI, SSI, BSAC whatever, at the end of the day it is the individual instructor that will determine the quality of your training. And the individual diver's responsibility to practise good diving habits. I've met and dived with both competent and fucked up divers from all the various certifying agencies. The worst diver I ever dived with was BSAC certified. This like like the usual which brand is better crap I see on so many types of forums.Originally posted by Fatum:SSI is definitely NOT like NAUI, it's not even close to PADI in terms of recognition.
there are only a few SSI certifiers in Singapore, and I think I know most of them .... a couple of them are really dodgy characters, can PM me if you want to know more, but honestly, stick to NAUI, it's probably a little more expensive, a little more difficult than anything out there (except BSAC, but nobody goes for that nowadays), but you get what you pay for, and since scuba IS really a dangerous sport (something neophyte, open water divers, what i call weekend warriors, often forget), so learn it well eh ...
the place Bear knows is very reputable, I've dived with that joint a couple of times myself, but it's rather pricey, I can recommend you cheaper ones, or alternatively, can psycho Bear to come along as well, got group discounts
Welll....that will depend on how much she likes you, doesn't it..........Originally posted by the Bear:if.. that's a fricken HUGEASS if.. i decide to get myself certified, i got a divemaster/dive instructor sister.... you think for one moment she's going to let me skimp on safety and equipment?

As long as you follow the procedures and standards set by ANY of the certifying agencies, you will be fine!
Bear, shrocat, if you are getting certified, here's a tip. Buy your own safety sausage and get the instructor to teach you how to deploy it. Then practice in the pool and if possible during your first open water dives multiple times until it becomes second nature. Oh, and replace the crappy cheap ass line it comes with and use good quality cave line instead. Can save your life one day.
