I learnt Waltzing Matilda in primary school during music lessons though I couldn't figure out what the hell the song was about thenOriginally posted by Deportivo:Waltzing Matilda is the unofficial anthem because all aussie knows how to sing it. Even myself spending 3 years down under, picked matilda up within the first 2 months.
But seriously, the song really embodies the australian beliefs - freedom, outback, nature and the carefree life.
So if i get to choose the aussie anthem, it will be:
1. Waltzing Matilda
2. I Still Call Australia Home
3. Advance Australia Fair
That was a lamp I got from Ikea! They were all in boxes, placed in some corner, and on sale! I think about A$16 or so nia! I hovered around the stack, not quite sure if it'll coordinate and 'go' with my decor but I'm darn glad I decided to get it!Originally posted by SydneyLibrarian:hehe... great! So now when you come to Sydney, we can go Succulent Shopping together! Am thinking of getting some myself. Love your plants, btw! And.. oh.. that pink lollipop lamp is sooo cute! Where'd u get it from?

Thank you! Thank you!! It was a blessing in disguise that I moved just on time for the June sales so almost everything I got, I got at a hefty discount!Originally posted by choco B:Rhonda, your flat is lovely! Glad you're settling down well :]

Now with all the clutter and grime it would take a spring clean before it's photo-ready..
Sigh
SL, don't make my mistake! Take house pics while house is still in pristine brand new condition!!
I fully agree!!Originally posted by elindra:Buying stuff for the house is the exciting part!

btw, try not to feed the gulls inedible objects with your leftovers... i tossed a lit ciggie butt at the same direction and time my friends tossed their remainder chips for the gulls.. and after that frenzy, no more ciggie butt!
Eh... how come I've never heard the Aussie national anthem yet, har?Originally posted by SydneyLibrarian:Australians all let us rejoice,
For we are young and free;
We've golden soil and wealth for toil,
Our home is girt by sea;
Our land abounds in Nature's gifts
Of beauty rich and rare;
In history's page, let every stage
Advance Australia fair!
In joyful strains then let us sing,
"Advance Australia fair!"
Eh... that is Australia's national anthem leh!
Yup! Here, they call it the 'first floor', as in the floor above the 'ground floor'.Originally posted by Kenashi:Nice apartment

I'm wondering whether I should really upload that toilet photo!
It looks kinda pretty and inviting, but trust me, it's not comfy for sitting down for ages one! I get backaches if I sit / lie in it too long one!Originally posted by ShrodingersCat:nice sofa. I could lounge in it all day and you need a baseball bat to get me off something like that. Strategically placed in front of TV.. and coffee table for handy snacks, drinks and newspapers.
Gosh. I miss Australia. So much. Remember how a bunch of us used to go for midnight moonlight walks in our pyjamas freezing our butts off...
One thing me and my pals have learnt here - whilst studying here might be fun, working here presents its challenges, namely a four-letter word starting with 'b' and ending with 's'. Subtle, and not-so-subtle things DO happen in the workplace which reminds you that this turf ain't exactly your homeground.Originally posted by one-niner:Gee ....the gd old days ...a tear or 2 came my eyes as i recalled the happy days i spent as a undergrad 2 yrs back ..*sigh* ..so fast i am been working for close to 1 yr ..just 3 days short of it ... =P
nice apartment and setup you got there ! and the food ..smells so farmilar to me ..the singaporean get togethers during my stay there ..the laugher and the singlish ... *sigh* ...
Lets waltzing matilda !!!
Have to... because when you're stir-frying using a wok, you HAVE to be organised and quick so you don't overcook the food!Originally posted by Fatum:.............

But oh well, I can't complain... cause I got this couch from my colleague, who sold it to me for A$50 nia! She and her hubby even transported it to my place in a li'l wagon that they attached behind their car and assembled it for me too! So, can't complain!
It came in a really awful and yucky and mucky dark moss green cover with some yucky design on it, and I scouted around for a decent-looking quilt cover to makeover ze couch! It's a sofa bed, btw! And recently, I got a body pillow with some microfibre + satin cover from K-mart (only A$29.95 nia!) to place in the hollow so it's much more ergonometric now!
If you come to Melbourne, let me know, hor?
Just watch out for the bombs.Originally posted by the Bear:btw, the gulls are intelligent...
they will eat chips, and sometimes, in their frenzy, eat lit ciggie butts..

To add to the list of negatives - taxes and workplace prejudice.Originally posted by elindra:I learnt Waltzing Matilda in primary school during music lessons though I couldn't figure out what the hell the song was about then
Well, positive side are the beliefs -freedom, outback, nature and carefree life.
Negative side would be tramps/vagabonds, squatters and thieves ; not wanting to find work to earn a decent living
