Used to buy from Cole's but felt the meat there looked 'dodgy' and there were times when they looked downright past the expiry date! Then, when the current affairs show on Channel 7, Today Tonight, ran an expose on the foul practices of supermarts like Cole's, who would pump in some sorta gas before they film wrap the packs of meat to kinda preserve them, it totally put me off buying any kinda meat from Cole's. So, now I purchase chicken meat from the poultry seller and my beef and lamb from the butcher's and they are both just outside Cole's too! I cannot go near those minimarts in Victoria Street who sell meat because the meat section there just smells downright foul!Originally posted by whitsundays:Just for curiosity, do you guys buy your meat from the supermarket (Woolies or Coles) or from the butchers?

How do you butcher a pig without draining the blood? I've never seen bloody pork in the USA and I've lived here my entire life.Originally posted by viciouskitty74:And found out this: the reason why pork smells so bad in USA is because the butchers dont drain the blood away from the meat.
Cool, then can you explain the smell?Originally posted by skid:How do you butcher a pig without draining the blood? I've never seen bloody pork in the USA and I've lived here my entire life.
Cool! Thanks.Originally posted by whitsundays:The carcasses from the meatworks are usually drained of blood before they are being pack. The blood, fats and spare parts from the carcass are usually sold to other companies as raw materials for the production of cosmetics, soaps, animal feed etc.
The smell from pork (if they are not rotten) is usually the sex pheromones in pigs. Someone did explain to me when I was working in the meatworks.
But airpork is supposedly fed with corn only?Originally posted by the Bear:not unless you're a pig
but i dunno.. the imported pork, like the AirPork from australia, has a weird smell
talking about grocery shopping, i need to get more fruit.. i've run out in the house

You know the saying. We are what we eat.
So airpork smells of corn?????
Fruit. yep...kinda miss the varieties I get back in Singapore. Overhere, its expensive.
Tot you went out and buy fruits liao?Originally posted by the Bear:uhh.. where is "here" for you?
my sister says that fruit in australia is cheap
That is because of the feed.Originally posted by viciouskitty74:Cool! Thanks.
But ehhh.....why the pork meat at USA smells still, The pigs here are more sexual?
Sex pheromones.....so we can view pork meat as aphrodisacs?
It's true for where I am. Raw pork stinks.Originally posted by elindra:That is because of the feed.
In the USA, some farmers still feed their pigs swill and that gives the weird smell.
All the pork cutting plants drain the blood from the pigs. Taste, smell and marbling of the meat is very much dependent on the feed.
Ooooooh......thanks.Originally posted by elindra:That is because of the feed.
