In general, we speak too fast for them. If we speak at the speed we do with each other, they won't understand. I have to kinda adopt their accent a little (not that I do that well! ) and speak slowly and emphasise every word so they will comprehend. Man, I bore myself to sleep sometimes when I have to speak THAT slowly to them!Originally posted by elindra:The Aussies don't understand your accent?
Or is it because it is too clear that they don't understand
You know without that lazy drawl
Really? The Australians who game with us have no problems understanding us when we play WoWOriginally posted by Rhonda:In general, we speak too fast for them. hehehe as person with lots of tattoos i laugh when i think of ppl with tattoos like that...Originally posted by viciouskitty74:Errrmmm...was talking to my sis and that reminds me.
I was at Vegas having dinner when I see a punkish young lady. Those sort black spiked up hair, dark kohl eyes, dark lipstick and sleeveless tee kinda gal.
On her arm was tattooed big big these 2 chinese words. 'Nui Go' 'Female Dog'
Was discussing it with my sis and she explained, maybe that angmoh gal was trying to say that she is biaatch.
But somehow.....the angmohs didnt realise its actual translation just mean that. A Female Dog.
She could have saved the trouble and simply tatooed one word "Jian" which is chinese, could have meant 'Cheap' or 'Slutty' or 'biatchy'.
I was thinking she should have simply tattooed the word 'Er' which means nasty or fierce.
haha those la lor ah (cantonese) reaaaally shiiiit me!Originally posted by valentinoo:haha i bet lots of Singaporeans try very very hard not to accidentally say out alamak, leh, lah, loh, walau etc in front of those ang moh

they seem to have a negative opinion about asians. Its the stereotypes that needs breaking though. in the media, we, as asians are portrayed as "we cant speak english". and we are also "little" in our height and weight compared to the cacausians.
Rhonda this doesnt help for you coming from melbourne where the premier is asian and he needs brushing up on his english it was so funny hearing him speak on television the other day.
one more thing. ASIAN IS SUCH A BROAD TERM. gosh. and they think we are all the same.
singaporeans can be identified by their thick singlish accent haha
RHONDA. sports is very integrated into the culture here! esp rugby league and australian rules football. therefore it is important to support a team. ive been living in perth for a few years now, and i support West Coast EAGLES! yeeeha.
... and singapore slingers. to a extent, so much FT in it. get some local players.
Bravo!Originally posted by fymk:A bit late but never mind.
Premier is not asian - he's 4th generation aussie-Lebanese. John So is the Mayor of Melbourne and yes he is the guy with the funny accent. South Australia has a chinese senator I think- Penny Wong or something
I remember in Sydney I met a scot who was chatting to me. He then asked me the usual question: where are you from. I said "Singapore" . He said "I love Tiannamen square. I was like huh?" . He was like aren't you from china. I said to him ( it pissed him off majorly) : " If Singapore is in China, Scotland must really be part of India." He was like "WHAT?" . I said "go home and look at your map- Singapore is definitely not in China ".
Oh yah....I got that too when I was at USA. Strangely....they understand the concept of them driving on the wrong side of the car but on the right side of the road....Originally posted by Rhonda:Bravo!
Here's another really silly conversation with one colleague at work :
"Well, you can speak Chinese, right?"
"Yeah! Why?"
"So, you're from China?"
"No!! I'm from Singapore!"
"But you're Chinese, right?"
"Yup! I'm a Singaporean Chinese."
"Well, but you're still Chinese, right?"
"Yeah. But I don't come from China."
"But your ancestors do, right?"
"Yeah!"
"So it's the same!"
(Me starting to get really annoyed! So apparently 'bimbo' is not gender-specific and is not limited to hair colour either! )
"Look, 'Chinese' is a race, just like 'Caucasian' is a race. You can be an American-born Chinese or an Aussie-born Chinese or a Taiwanese or Hong Konger or a Malaysian Chinese or like me, a Singaporean Chinese, but we aren't all from China! We aren't the same! The race is the same, but the similarities might really just end there!"
WTF!!! Is this such a hard concept to grasp? We aren't even talking about rocket science here!!
I just tell them so ur from the border of turkey and iran ...since ur called caucasians and caucasia is there. If ur not , don't bother telling me that I am from China because same concept is there.Originally posted by Rhonda:Bravo!
