I enjoy my work a lot (i work with kids) and it never really FEELS like working when I am spending time with them.
BUT sometimes the amount of preparatory work I've got to do gets to me and I feel inclined to be lazy.
Even though I Enjoy spending my time with them, yeah, sometimes its not what you do, but the idea of being BONDED to having to wake up at this time 5 days a week for the rest of your living life until you retire, that sometimes the whole idea of WORK (not what you work as) is intimidating.
And I've had shift work before, work that has irregular hours in high density per project then you NUAH for a couple of weeks, freelance work ... etc etc.
Its the same. It's the feeling of being trapped and not being able to just say 'heck', and WALK OFF simply cos you feel like going to the beach that day.. - i think that's the sucky part of adult life.

yeah.. you're telling me.. i'm stuck doing a project and i've got a crapload of leave which will be thrown away because i can't clear it by the end of the year..
oh well.. it's only work

I feel wretched every morning when i wake up..... but i tell you once I get into office, I just get so pumped up trying to meet my various KPIs. My boss once says this to me, you are not an ambitious person nor career minded (which is true, my ambitions lie away from the corporate world). You are just challenging yourself to go better every month.
I think that is true, I work hard because I am accountable. I am responsible for my channel. I want to work so hard in a way that I will see results and so hard that I can tell myself, "I tried my best" even when i dun see results. To me, the work is no longer about ambition or results but it becomes a reference to my character, personality and values. One day I will leave my work to do what I really want to do but for now, I will work hard for myself. -
Believe me, I'd love to amble into my manager's office and tender my resignation. Like many here, I too am tired of the drudgery and monotony of a '9-to-5' office job and often wonder if there's more to life than mindlessly repeating the same rigamarole on a daily basis.
However, the bills that seem to turn up almost everyday in my mailbox serve as a reality check. -

Something I picked up in some of the posts here... Ambition - Why is it wrong to lack ambition at work?
I mean, I want to go to work, fulfill my responsibilties and do the best I can during my shift, then when I finish my day, I have other things to look forward to in my life. I do not want extra responsibilities, nor do I covet after any title nor status.
I'm happy like that but back in SG, it almost seems 'wrong' to not be ambitious. I'm glad that here, there's way more flexibility plus there are tons of people in my workplace who are opting for less than 5-day weeks to accommodate their various interests in life.
To me, there's more to life than work, work, work. If I have to work, work, work, then I also wanna play, play, play! -

Say, btw, I had a helicopter ride over the 12 Apostles in Great Ocean Road recently and WHOAAAA!!! I took tons of photos as we flew over the 12 Apostles and the pictures were simply breathtaking! Loved, loved, LOVED the ride!! When I was in the helicopter, I was thinking, "I wanna learn how to fly!!" -
Every one goes through this stage of life especially the job is just to foot the bill and not your interest. (Job - expectation of parents, meeting shortage in the industry)
Therefore, you have to take the initiative to build up the foundation for the next move if you have some ideas of what to do next.
For people that are not ambitous, then they have to learn to accept the monotonous life unless they are willing to spend some time after work to develop another interest eg model making.
The people in sg was educated to graduate, find a job, buy a car, buy a house, marry, have a kid, retire and die type of life. (Typical work ant life)
I am also at the same stage of life at the moment and still sorting out my priorities.
Always glad that the pple in forums are generously in giving their 2 cent worth of advice. -

I didn't visit any IELTS forum, not that I remember!
I'm kinda curious and was wondering if ... I'm not being proud or boastful, just really really curious... if I should get hold of the new IELTS handbook just to see if my essay somehow erm... made it there, cause I remember desperately flipping through the handbook the day before and reading through the examples of essays and wondering what one has to do to get one's essay in there.
