If you break a neutron up into quarks, then it is no longer a neutron. Neutrons exist only in discrete particles (1,2,3....).Originally posted by hisoka:well neutrons are made up of quack or something so i guess they can be divided.
no idea about the rest

She taught them that hydrogen has 0.0008 neutrons based on the fact that the Ar of hydrogen is 1.00008. So, no. of neutrons = (Ar - proton number).
What she neglected to realise is that that equation only works if you consider just one isotope. An Ar of 1.0008 takes into consideration the relative concentrations of deuterium and tritium as well, totally negating that equation in the process.
She didn't use the text at all.Originally posted by hisoka:
no idea i'm not a physics/chem guy.
she actually had to derive that answer? i thought its just given in the text?
i suppose we should give her marks for taking the effort to come up with the lecture notes.Originally posted by fudgester:She didn't use the text at all.
She just gave them worksheets and taught them lecture-style.
