CNY superstitions

My mum used to remind us not to sweep the floor on CNY day lest we sweep out the luck; and not to use any cutting implements for fear of the same. I know there are lots out there. Can't wait to hear from everyone.

I only hear about the sweeping 1 and also not to wear black. I dunno why.

Black is often associated with death and gloom mah while red is the colour of choice as it is associated with luck and freshness (renewal).
Another superstition is dat you not supposed to see naked women during the cny festivities otherwise your luck for the year will run out.........

I remember this one: cannot eat anything "hard" during CNY or you will have a hard life the rest of the year

that you've got to eat rice first thing on the morning of the CNY ...
our family tradition is that the first meal of CNY (breakfast) would always be vegetarian .... it never varies every year : plain rice with stir-fried veggies with two ingredients always present : fa-chai (hair moss) ... and leeks
I was told that eating rice on CNY morning means you'd alway have rice to eat ... but I think the vegetarian thingy is just for good karma ...

Too many pan dang things lor to rember lor.
No sweeping with broom, no black colour ok lah.

They use vaccum cleaner to clean the floor ( suck in luck ???) -
