I've never paid a cent of personal income tax in Singapore, but from what I've been told by friends who live and work there, the income tax rates in Singapore are surprisingly low vis-a-vis other 'developed' countries.Originally posted by Rhonda:My definition of 'high taxes' has been redefined since coming here.
In order not to get frustrated, I consider my post-tax income as my gross. Yeah, the infamous ostrich-burying-its-head-in-the-sand plea of ignorance, which, in this case, is truly bliss!
Each time I start to think of the obscene amount of tax I pay, I feel downright miserable! At least, those years of paying taxes in Singapore were pain-free.

but i think i can at least escaped being robbed this way for this yearOriginally posted by Wanda:Aiya...just like death, taxes is a fact of life....cannot escape for most. So just accept although sometimes very heart pain to see the taxed amount.
Why? Take course ah, since you obviously can't claim for wife relief.Originally posted by hisoka:but i think i can at least escaped being robbed this way for this year
just started work in augest, should be earning too little to be robbed in this way. but getting robbed in other waysOriginally posted by Wanda:Why? Take course ah, since you obviously can't claim for wife relief.
Work less than 6 mths, probably no need to pay tax lor.Originally posted by hisoka:just started work in augest, should be earning too little to be robbed in this way. but getting robbed in other ways
still need to be robbed just that income tax no needOriginally posted by Wanda:Work less than 6 mths, probably no need to pay tax lor.
You mean gst? I know you feel very sore now, but as you work longer and pay more of this and that (e.g. property tax, and the super useless and lousy tv licence) , you'll will get the right perspective on things.Originally posted by hisoka:still need to be robbed just that income tax no need
will get used to being robbed or like to be robbed?Originally posted by Wanda:You mean gst? I know you feel very sore now, but as you work longer and pay more of this and that (e.g. property tax, and the super useless and lousy tv licence) , you'll will get the right perspective on things.
Ya, you'll get more used to it, and will feel that not all robbing are equal - certain types of robbing feels better than other (like that super useless and lousy tv licence ).Originally posted by hisoka:will get used to being robbed or like to be robbed?

Year of Assessment 2007 means you're paying taxes for income earned in the previous year - 2006.Originally posted by Parka:Hmmm. I guess I'm filing for the year 2006? Or is there a tax season like March 06 to March 07?
Suppose I earn $35000, based on that table, I should be paying $375+(275/2) = $662.5. Right?
Thanks for the comment. After calculating, it's much lesser than what I initially thought.Originally posted by Wanda:Year of Assessment 2007 means you're paying taxes for income earned in the previous year - 2006.
No lah, you won't be paying so much.
Chargeable Income (CI) = Earned Income (EI) minus the Reliefs which you're entitled, e.g EI relief, wife relief, NS man relief, etc. (depending on what reliefs you're entitled to claim).
For $35k annual income, I believe the taxes will be less then $300.
