I think Physics is not bad at all.
My point is, just because he had a C for A level physics , he shouldn't be discouraged about reading Physics at Uni... if he has the interest, I think he can handle the subject with hard work put in. Besides, even within one major there are many different areas to study.
he did say he wanna be a lecturer.. but to do that... he's underqualified at the moment
i think if he can get in.... he'd wanna go into physics/psychology... either one.. just that, maybe psychology is ranked #1 on his list at the moment -

psychology doesnt mean u gotta be psychologist. u can actually take the skill as a passive skill, and apply it to other fields. it is like a discipline in a way.
knowing how human and people behave, can bring u to managerial role fast
