they also included a lot of stuff that i dun need so i might sell of my package. i had a pretty good deal for the package so selling it should not be hard. (i have photographer and 3 make-to-measure gowns + 1 off the rack dress in the package)
then again i'm still viewing my options and shopping for designs. i might just get bride burn out and grab whichever gown within reach
maybe i should really scale down my options

No fixed rule, it's up to the parents. Some keep all, others give all to the newlyweds. If it's possible, best to include the wedding dinner expenses in your actual wedding budget so at least you have the peace of mind on your big day to know that you can pay for the wedding dinner regardless what happens.
Please don't get me wrong, I am not trying to stress you. I simply don't want you to take the chances on anything that might ruin your big day!

heehee thanks for the advise honey. my current budget plan includes half the cos of the dinner. Remember to get a pair of comfy shoes........ You don't want to have sore feet on that day.

may i have a copy of the order of service. not sure if getting pastor or JP yet but it will come in handy i'm sure
i'm still at the start of wedding preparations. the wedding date is more than a year away but i'm just so excited. wanna make sure i cover wat i can and hopefully the wedding will be smooth
for now i'm concentrating on getting a photographer for actual day, deciding the style i wan for my gown, deciding the mood (romantic, modern, traditional, cheesy, etc) for the solomization cum dinner and deciding how to deco the location.
as for photographers, TX n I are meeting up with a few. but one of our top choices hasn't return my call nor email for 2 days
if no response then no choice but to pick someone else.
style for wedding gown, as u gals can see, i'm all over the place. so many pretty gowns, so many designs, so many choices! everything i see something new my heart just skips a beat
u know what i'm so in love with at the moment? Madonna in her MTV in 'take a bow'. classic, sensuous, and totally hot. i wonder if i can find a gown that is classic & sensuous *giggle*
as for mood & deco of the solomization-cum-dinner, i'm more or less set on a 30% romance, 40% queer/oddball/outofthenorm, 30% simplicity. see i'm all over the place again

That should be mostly flowers, petals, laces, ribbons, balloons & candles. Which most planners or enterprising experienced ah yees will be able to do.
For your lets say traditional fetch the bride, tea ceremony, that may be a bit more tricky because of both families traditions, money issues & makan options. -
A wedding dinner of a AGC Person.
He is short, stocky and likes the flintstones.
He held the dinner at the Singapore Academy of Law Ballroom. Food was supplied by the SAL's Restaurant so its a mix of Chinese, Muslim & Western. Attended by most of the legal & judiciary professionals.
There was a mix of red & white bottle wines.
He marched into the ball room with his bride with a Flintstone music track. And played mostly music tracks from that cartoon. Thats quirky. -
Another lawyer lady, she met her hubby thru dance classes.
So for her wedding dinner. It was chinese dinner and again there is red and white bottle wines for the guest to drink according to the dishes served at the Dinner Ballroom.
She and her hubby waltzed into the ballroom.
Another fren who also met his wife at dance classes.
He skipped the wedding dinner and instead booked a discopub that caters to the normal dancing crowd.
What he does is he contracted caterers to serve buffet at the dance club. And invite mostly friends for a night of makan and dancing.
Those who drinks, orders their own alcohol and have a jolly time dancing their hearts out. -
good friend did her wedding at Raffles Hotel. Booking a ballroom and a separate break out room that is used as a cocktail waiting area as well a serve the tea ceremony rooms for relatives that was late and couldnt make it for the earlier tea ceremony at the homes.
There was 2 dinners, one chinese and 2nd one was western.
Her morning, was fetch the bride routine and tea ceremony routine ending at her matrimonial home.
Her afternoon, she did the soloeminsation at the Raffles Hotel Garden at the Pavilion. Pavilion was decorated nicely with added touches of flowers and pretty angelic flower gals.
1st dinner was chinese dinner, so she uses the break out room for cocktail waiting and some more tea ceremony. then its in for the dinner.
The 2nd dinner, was done on the lower floor ballroom, with a big square dance floor.
flower arrangements was huge and beautiful, with 2 different bottles of wine and the meal is western muslim.
For her march in, guest lights sparklers, she walks in with her hubby and they start the first dance of waltz on the dancefloor as per angmoh style. to which, her hubby's friends gives toast to the couple. The guest list for the 2nd night is mostly folks that flew in as far away as switzerland, belgium & europe.
We had a problem with the sparklers cos we didnt want to set off the fire alarm with the sparklers smoke. But it went on very well after discussion with the hotel people and they even dimm the lights for her entrance. -

I've seen Lord of the Rings themed wedding events online and gawd they were corney. The guy in some knight outfit and the girl in Arwen's dress.
