I think it's the particular theme one is going for
Star Wars is fine because there's abit of tongue-in-cheek in it
Lord of the Rings is so solemn and ETHEREAL, it's almost impossible to take it seriously , or to recreate an ethereal mood in a ballroom - it just turns out kinda pretentious and a bit ridiculous.

Like a fat bride oppose to a slim elfen princess and a fat rolli bubbly groom as Aragon.
But mimicking the characters, i agree is too tacky. Especially if you dont allow your guests to laugh out in fun. -

Go hubby's place tea ceremony
Change clothes
Go back mothers place tea ceremony
Go hotel to check in, take some pics in the gowns
Do soloemisation
Take a break
Shower and prepare for evening dinner?
Before dinner stand in front of guest sign in table
start dinner march in
change clothes
Dinner toasting and yum seng
End dinner stand outside to shake hands of guests
Go back hotel room change out clothes and count angbaos/ go out party?
For the actual day, if you break it out in such segments, might be easier to pack your stuffs and your bridesmaid also easier to help you set out for you how to help you along. -

rainee. nowadays the fashion is to use long sash to add color and define your waist. go try it. very very nice and makes almost any gown look like designer gown.

wat do u gals think of 2-piece gown?
i saw pictures of this gal who had a 2 piece. one skirt is silk satin ballgown skirt which she used for church. and a second skirt is short tulle.
her top also interchangeable, inside tube, outside is lace.
then she got a chocolate sash for her dinner walk in.
all together she got like at least 5 looks out of her wedding dress
she looked very good in all the different looks (okie she is pretty, slim with figure kind)
i was so impressed but not sure if such a look would carry off on me (u know the bah bah kind) -
FYI, since you are observing some traditional customs
Usually white events are in the afternoon, while red events in the morning. This helps prevent any clashing on the road. Something to consider if you're planning a late start

If she has many events to go to, is a good way to cut down on cost while keeping her looks fresh. Did she buy or rent the outfit ?

or 2piece show more skin? + easier to wear? -
2 piece can work for a full bodied gal.
A tube top kinda look.
2 different style skirts. One full with train and one long pencil with slits at the side?
Then you can do a chinese cheong sum collar translucent mesh jacket & a nonya inspired embroided mesh cardigan.
that tube top shall then last you throughout the day & night.
