  it's called a handball.. you punch the ball..
  
  other rules.. you can run with the ball but the ball must touch the ground every 10 metres.. so you see them bouncing the ball...
  
  if the ball is kicked out on the full, the other team gets a freekick from the touchline..
  
  if the ball goes out, the ref faces the crowd and tosses the ball backwards overhead into the ruck...
  
  the game starts when the ref bounces the ball.. the ball becomes in play when it falls..
  
  when the ball is smothered such that it cannot be moved and played, the ref will bounce the ball to get the game going again...
  
  the game is played on a cricket pitch and therefore goal to goal is about 220m to 240m

  I see. I have been here for more than 10 years now but have never been to a footy match. One of these days I should go, just to experience the madness.

  I think there have been discussions to move the footy final to other state but not sure if it's happening or not.
