Whatever the case, I feel that if you do want to take risks and play around with money, then at the very least you should follow these rules:
1. Only use your own money.
2. Only invest amounts that you can afford to lose.
If you don't meet either one of the above criteria, then DON'T play around with money.
I remember reading about this undergrad who lost $700,000 when he got burnt playing the stock market... and $300,000 of it was his father's life savings.

the point is, a lot of people attended such course and seminars, didnt gain anything out of it, and yet become cult followers of such people extolling his wealth and 'virtues' and what not
people so easily hoodwinked for such obvious things?
Most conmen like him make assloads of money all right.
Imagine each person pays a few hundred bucks each to attend one seminar, multiply by average number of participants per seminar, multiply by number of seminars the conmen give. You get the picture. And I haven't even started adding in merchandise sales yet. -

Problem with investing $$$ you do not have is that you are unable to ride out the cycle of bust and boom for stocks. -
