Where to go for holiday on CNY?

  I am planning to get out of the country on the next CNY (on the first day!).
  Can anyone suggest any place that is not too expensive to spend
  
  Does Japan celebrate Lunar New Year?
  
  My budget is less than $2,000 for the basic package (excluding spending and shopping there).

  Go either japan, India, Europe, America or Latin America lah.
  
  Chinese New year celebrated by all, except for those few countries.
  
  You dont want to be going out walking around and not find foods cos most of the shops are closed.

  2k per person for air tix and accomodation, u can get quite far.
  
  taiwan accomodation can get ard $50 per day per person, tokyo can get by week at $550. hong kong is expensive.
  
  bangkok also not bad for shopping.... or u can try china.

  True. Places that I am familiar with and comfortable to travel alone are celebrating CNY. All the shops will be closed, so I will have nothing to do but to eat cup noodles in hotel rooms
