BaltlantisÂ’ science editor, Viktoria Vahva, made these photographs on Monday, June 11th, at five a.m. on the Pirita Beach. She believes the animal to be a polar bear cub. At first, she thought it must be a large dog, but when she approached, the animal stood on its hind legs, growled, and charged Finland. It swam above water for fifty meters and disappeared into the sea. The young bear left these tracks up and down the hard-packed sand.
According to Vahva, this is the first time a polar bear has been sighted in Estonia. Baltlantis, with assistance from the World Wildlife Fund, has launched a full investigation.
