OIC. Hey, thanks a lot for the advice! I have heard enough complaints from end users about Vista so I'm not going to deal with their bugs. I'm just going to stick to XP.Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:Nicely without problems, provided you are not using Vista. Tell the manufacturer you want a hard disk with no OS installed, then purchase an XP CD to install.
There's no way to go back to XP is Vista is installed, because Microsoft says so. And the trick to revert back has been taken offline. I have no idea why, maybe because it's against the rules...
Don't think I'm such a sophisticated user who will need dual booting! I'm happy enough just having a PC, any functional PC, after a one-year hiatus!Originally posted by the Bear:if you want xp, go get a disc for it... you can dualboot..
Oh yeah... Microsoft Office. These days, you kinda have to pay through your nostrils for the full version. I hate the Home Editions, btw. Bleah!Originally posted by laurence82:Original XP worth more than Vista anyway
got my boss to help me get XP and Office CD from JB
Y'know, the design just looks... wrong. I prefer the thing to have a few buttons so it'll at least look a bit more 'real' and functional.Originally posted by the Bear:
Thanks!Originally posted by dbowie:yes, should be enough to meet your needs like mayi said.
i read on gizmodo, mac mini is going to be discontinued,?!
Both. You need a TV tuner card (hardware). Then you install the necessary drivers (software).Originally posted by Rhonda:OK, a few more questions...
If I want to fix my PC to view TV programs, what do I need? Is it a hardware or a software, or both? Is it easy to install and configure a PC to do this, in your opinion? Is it easy to then record TV programs onto the HDD?
Wow... a separate HDD, eh? Maybe later, too ex!Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:Both. You need a TV tuner card (hardware). Then you install the necessary drivers (software).
Following the instructions should be easy to use. Although you might want to use a separate hard disk, because it can burn out the space pretty fast.
It's already up in the specs... says duo.Originally posted by :Just when I tot my home pc is all souped up, Rhonda's new toy makes me feel mine is in need of an overhaul liao!
Rhonda, is your new pc a duo core or quad core?
I think if you DIY one here and get it send over to Australia might be cheaper.Originally posted by Rhonda:It's already up in the specs... says duo.
I haven't bought it yet... just have set my eyes on it. THink I'll wait for the Mid-Year Sales in Melbourne and see if the price drops further. Currently, with the add-on's and service package I want, it seems like this PC might exceed A$3K!

Shipping costs + Custom charges + GST in Melbourne (some kinda Import Duty), etc etc etc... nope, not that viable!Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:I think if you DIY one here and get it send over to Australia might be cheaper.
I'm looking for a desktop, not a laptop.Originally posted by the Bear:i dunno.. cult leader kinda seems to insist on being chopped radish head..
told her for $3k can get a pretty decent iMac which will dual-boot xp...

I'm also looking for good on-site service because remember where I live? Remember I don't drive? I can't exactly hop into a taxi and bring my desktop to the service centres over there.
