Hmm... certainly food for thought!Originally posted by JLennon:Wah, your proposed pc packs a punch!
Maybe what I might add is another DVD-ROM (not burner) just purely for playing DVDs and leave your burner solely for burning DVDs. But it may just be unnecessarily excessive.
Would adding more RAM (memory) give a little more processing speed?
I don't want to spend money buying an Apple, then finding out that I cannot play my favourite PC games on it.Originally posted by the Bear:an iMac is a desktop...
anyway, clicky here => AppleCare Australia
within it, it says:
Q:What does the AppleCare Protection Plan include?
A:The AppleCare Protection Plan includes telephone technical support, global repair coverage, onsite repairs for desktop computers, web-based support resources, and powerful diagnostic tools. See the AppleCare Protection Plan Terms & Conditions for complete details. What does the AppleCare Protection Plan include?

An Apple is good, but not omnipotent.
And I still prefer black to white.
Be patient ... not everyone is so PC saavy. You kept talking about dual, I kept saying I don't need two different OS, reason being, it didn't occur to me that you were talking about getting an iMac duo so that I can run it like a generic non-Apple PC mah.Originally posted by the Bear:ahhh.. nevermind..
tell you already.. can make it dual or even tri-bootable...
which means it runs OSX, XP and Linux if you wish it to...
oh well...

I think SLS still have.Got one shop sell window xp,and still got 98 somemoreOriginally posted by laurence82:Original XP worth more than Vista anyway
got my boss to help me get XP and Office CD from JB
Hmm... I don't know Australia rules well...Originally posted by Rhonda:Shipping costs + Custom charges + GST in Melbourne (some kinda Import Duty), etc etc etc... nope, not that viable!
Besides, by the time it reaches me, probably would be damaged from the rough handling, even if you pack it nicely in a box.
You have no idea what things cost in Australia. That's why I was telling av I was so tempted to just buy a Fujitsu and bring it over.Originally posted by the Bear:okay, cult leader.. whatever it is, that A$3,000 is insane to pay for something like that..
with that amount, you can build the damned thing, have a 19" monitor, freight the whole damned thing over there and still have enough change left over for a desk
Then it must be the opposite for savvy users. 4 years with Mac, I never get to know it as well as I know Linux or Windows.Originally posted by the Bear:thing is, the iMac is for those who are NOT computer savvy..

Maybe Tiger isn't convincing enough. Leopard will. I'm counting the days to the release of Leopard. It's been leaked somewhere.Originally posted by the Bear:i do.. i was there..
and i'm talking about building it at SLS and then freighting it there..
anyway, for that kind of money, seriously think about the Apple because it's about the same price.. and the footprint is a lot smaller... it's basically an LCD monitor and a keyboard/mouse...
thing about OSX is that you don't really need a lot of things.. which you will end up buying because you have to.. like anti-virus and all that..
If freighting stuff there was so easy, I'd have shipped half my stuff over by now!Originally posted by the Bear:i do.. i was there..

Surprise... NO shipping firm in Singapore wants to ship stuff that are personal effects over to Melbourne! Reason being, too much paperwork, customs will charge extra, and then they might decide to quarantine, fumigate, what-not, adding even more charges. Then they slap a GST on you and maybe, Import Duty, to be paid as a %age of the value of the imported goods.
Plus, they'll probably throw your carton about. I don't even think it will reach me in one piece! And then when it arrives and something happens to the parts... any international warranty?
YOu were there, what? 10 years ago? And is is much easier said than done.
Mouse again. They never seem to get the mouse right.Originally posted by the Bear:yeah.. actually was waiting until the leopard was released before buying the iMac but my little VAIO blew up... so i needed a computer.. bought one..
it's serves me fine
left it on for a month one time.. there was absolutely no slowdown or anything..
the only grouse i have is with the stupid mouse..

There are some which provide international warranty... have to ask around.Originally posted by Rhonda:If freighting stuff there was so easy, I'd have shipped half my stuff over by now!

Their keyboards... hmm... great. But I guess I'm too picky. It looks awfully flat to me, especially with my height, it only serves to make things worse.Originally posted by the Bear:the mouse is pretty.. it's also pretty useless
their keyboard could do with better feel too.. too hard..
they should go look at the sony keyboards
