Angkor Wat - bulit by the Angkor Civilization in the 12th century. with deep Hindu culture. Angkor Wat means City Temple. It was said that the Indian armies fought with the Angkor Queen. The Queen promised that if they lost the war, she would marry the Indian King. She lost and therefore married the King. Indian culture was thus brought into Cambodia.
There are many faces to the Angkor Wat. At one point, you can see the 5 tall structure represent the 5 peaks of Mt Meji. The moat is man made. It took them 300,000 slaves, 4,000 elephants and 40 years to complete the Angkor Wat

from another direction, you can only see the four pillars. It represents the 4 elements. Earth, Wind, Fire and Water. -
from the front, only three pillar can be seen. these presents the 3 hindu gods
Brahma - the creator
Vishnu - the preserver
Shiva - the destoryer -
It's so sad to see the great architectual constructions being damaged by aging, looting and the recent modern era Cambodian wars in 1980s -

the wisdom of the ancient cannot be doubt. during those time, piling does not exist. so how did they support such a huge structure? they used the soild volcanic rocks as base and the less hard rocks for the building structure. these structures are then crave with beautiful details and designs. -

Angkor Wat has 3 level each with coridors. the walls on the coridor each 100's of metres were carve with bas relives pictures of stories like ramayana (above) - rama and hanuman against the demons, battle scenes, 32 levels of heaven and 37 levels of hell.
