I've been watching a lot of Discovery Travel & Living lately.
My all-time favourite has to be
Anthony Bourdain.
His outlook on life and his travels in A Cook's Tour and No Reservations are deeper than the hilarious spots he finds himself in. His contemplation of the places he goes to, sometimes reverence, sometimes disdain, shows a man who is thinking, hoping and searching for something, something which he doesn't know what yet.
In his journeys, you can see the warmth and goodness that is inherent in him, while he portrays a cynical and jaded facade. But you know he's a good man within. For that, he is my hero.
That, and that he's willing to eat anything
And then, there is
Nigella Lawson.
A sensually beautiful woman who shows she knows her way around the kitchen, with her wonderful almost aristocratic British accent, as well as her way with words as she describes what she's doing in the kitchen.
She's also not afraid to eat well, and eat unhealthy in order to enjoy her creations. And it shows that she's enjoying herself. That's what you really need in cookery.
There.. my two favourite hosts. I guess it's me because it is not their creations that move me, but their way with the language and the way they approach their craft. It evokes a love of life and with it, beauty, even when Bourdain shows the not-so-nice side of life, he does find beauty in the mundane.
