I've always believed the cane would do naughty children a lot of good ....

I don't think I would cane my kids but I have no objection for the occasional light smack on their hands when they are naughty. And, that will only be my last resort.

i dun avocate whacking the kid but concrete discipline [which sometimes render physical punishment]... that's only so much logic and reason a small kid can fathom...
however, nvr raise ur hand at the kid cos u r angry... tat's a very different story...
then again, when u r mad, it's hard to say lah... i just piak bubble yest

if u all happen to see the show on channel 8, "wo bu shi bu ting hua", dey all teach and guide kids by consulting specialist, but for me, from wad i see, sometimes some caning will work instead of specialist.
if the kid is just plain stubbornly naughty and mischeivous, i wouldnt mind using a bit of caning. afterall, i believe a bit of physical pain is more real and works much better den if u try talking sense to some children who just refuse to listen to u.
really depends, if my child takes after me (i was quite naughty when i was young), den i think i need the cane (of course at the last resort lah).... -
I believe in caning to get a pt across and sometimes the kid is too young to understand any form of reasoning and pain does the trick
I do not believe in caning to vent your anger on them though.
Also caning =/= child abuse
Not disciplining your child when necessary IS child abuse -
Caning is using fear factor to make your children behave the way you desire them to be. I don't believe fear method work the best. Fear can cause distance between parent and child, temporary or permanently depend on the children's memory.

i was caned like hell growing up and it did me good.
so yes, i will give the bugger tiger stripes to show in school if he deserves it.
all that "talk to the kid" bullshit doesn't work with MOST kids.
i don't know why a lot of people think it will work with EVERY kid.
my classmate grew up without getting hit by his parents at all.
i grew up with lots of cane marks.

discipline children is quite difficult.
Sometimes reason does not work. Some times, children just want to test the limits. Sometimes the child tantrum is just too much. However, canning is not always the only solution. I guess I am not a parent so I cannot say, but watching the Nanny shows taught me a lot of things.
I can only point out somethings I observe as not correct. I believe that to discipline kids, both parents need to b e consistent. Both parents need to support each other and do not interfere or undo the discipline one parent is trying to enforce. When this happens, kids know they can play the parents out against each other and cause conflict. Parents have to be firm but flexible. Because the kids will push the boundaries and so they will persist till they get their way unless they realise the parents are not going to give way. Sometimes, its better to let the child experience the hurt or make the mistake or fail, than to "protect" them all the time. This is to help them in life. People live on encouragement - adults and child alike. For a child to be positive, first the parents need to be positive influence and set the example. If the example is broken, then a valid reason is needed to be provided. There are many lessons I've gleaned from the 2 kids in my house. They are my brother-in-law kids and being "taken care" by my MIL. Seriously I saw so many mistakes the old woman makes with her grandkids. I saw so many mistakes that the parents make that I didn't want to interfere. I can only hope if I ever have any child, I pray they will not be like my brother-in-law kids and I really hope they will not learn all the nasty things from my MIL. I also hope my husband step up to his role instead of always asking me to give way because his mommy knows best and let his parent become king and queen of the whole house which we pay for and these old folks make absurd demands and treat other people like dirt. -

yup, is see the child. if ur child is nt so naughty dat kind, talking to dem will work. really depend on the child. if he or she keep throwing tantrum and misbehaves despite talking so much to him or her, den a bit of pain shld come in.
after caning a kid, i think parent shld nt like just walk off, instead, shld just sit down n talk to the kid. allow the kid to talk too.

Even the law punish adult with canning!!!! I personally avoid canning if necessary, but we do live in a society that promote canning!!

once awhile, abit of caning is a must.
but of cos, do not resort to it everytime they make mistake.
its good to let them noe wad is pain, so tat next time b4 commiting the same mistake, they will remember the consequence they are going to face. -

Of course I will - Spare the rod and spoil the child! But I'll wield the cane sparingly.
If the kids do wrong, I'll take them aside and talk to them, explaining to them where they have erred. If they don't listen, I'll give another warning. Still dun obey, whacko liao!
