My 1st Photography Trip - Incredible India...!

India was my 1st photography trip.
I have yet to learn to proper technqiues of using a DSLR cammy and how to compose a pic. My cammy was brand new and I spent most of my time fumbling with the settings, just to take a simple picture.
..please excuse me as most of my pics are not good and many are erh.. Blur..!
I like to explore new place and love adventures. Even the 10-day trip was exhausting and we kana setbacks many times, I find India incredible, simply awesiome....
Day 1....
Reached Delhi Airport, my 1st hippcup, my tripod kana stolen when my Backpack checked out of the conveyor belt ..KNN! Have to explain to 10 airport officials before they understand what is a TRIPOD!
After settling the report, we moved to the taxi counter and managed to bargain for a good price to the Railway Station. We immediately bought the tickets (many hand languages) to Allahabad to catch the Kumbh Mela Festival on time...
so 3 guys and me auntie braved thru' the crowd/the chaos.
We had our 1st meal, Prata with Mutton (250gram, they charge by the weight) at the Station Cafe with their famous Cha-i (lovely ginger tea) ...
It's cold and I get to wear my thick jacket and I look like a cool panda!
The locals treated me very well,.. maybe I am a Chinese Lady/Auntie?

While waiting for the train, we slipped out with our heavy backpack, cammy everything and took a walk at the nearly Pasar Malam ...
It was there I first greeted them with a smile...my my...they are BIG..
and they were everywhere....I have learnt the art of "Siaming" and not step on COW DUNKs.
Colourful Merchandise - tempted to buy, but cannot carry more things...haiz..
Shopping place conditions (excuse the underexposed pics, kit lens limitations).
Dunno what is the detector for..it's placed right in the middle of the street, so as in the Railway Station when it did not work at all...hmm....
True enough, anyone can just walk into the station, board the train (even without tixs) and hoard your sleeper bed... or so as to say...anyone can just take your bag ...or plant a "bxxb"...scary leh..
and the announcement for train departure/arrival was in their own language, we may hop onto the wrong train and go somewhere else. There is no indication and everyone was guessing..
Challenging indeed!
So we are very careful, and "eye-ball" whoever cross our path!
I am the Fierce AUNTIE!
We had the Sleeper's Bunk, mine was the top one.. Have to really climb up and lie down...plus cannot sit up, or I will hit my head against the ceiling..
there I lay ..i think... 12 hours.! -
is that really from a DSLR ?
Sure does not look like it ... !!! -
I dun know how to use the DSLR then.....it was trial and error most of the time.. I was using my kit lens of 18-135mm F5.6 ..My virgin try....hehehe....
The Street shots were goner as my lens cannot cope...
so that's why they are so blur and underexposed lor...
I remember my 1st shot came out BLACK, ..I panick siah!
btw, all pics are not processed....hehe..dun know how to use photoshop..
6 months later, I went to Sabah (Tawau and Semporna) to try again... -
2nd Day...Reach Allahabad
Daybreaks...and I am still curl up on my bunk...shiok and cold...
The railway station was kindda busy..and everything looks so "luan" to me..
Wobbled out of the train station and wanna hunt for breakfast... and we see Chaos again.
We looked for transporation and they passed by ..errh...
we decide to be goody tourists... many many holy people around..

when did you go? which part of India you went? I am going on 10 Dec 07 for 10 days. any advices to share? -
I like the colours and the characters on the streets..
no doubt the place is backwards and the pple are poor, they seemed contented and happy... it feels good..
Maybe I am a lady, requesting to take photo of them is easy...? I just whipped up my camera, gave a bright smile, and they gave their best smiles in return, and let me play with their children...

. l prefer scenary shots -

I have reduced it to website pics at very very low res.. cos' loading onto the online album takes a very long time, so i chose the smallest resolution lor.
The pics definitely have lost quite a bit of details, thus blurring it too..

I like India...everyone is not posh posh here posh posh there...very down to earth... all hands-on... a lot of walking and lugging my heavy backpack and cammy stuff......I lost so much weight...good for me..

we walked around and have difficulty in getting directions...
Ask in English, reply in Hindi... fun huh ....
I was laughing most of the time, it's hilarious...especially my 3 guys friends using the Lonely Planet book to show the locals, worse rite???
Btw, the transport is mainly cyclist-tuk tuk style...2 big size fella in one small tuk tuk..the cyclist must have died of heart attack later..
We went to look for hotel and got to eat a proper small meal at cafe. We were so eager to charge our cammy batteries, that we cause a blackout in the cafe.. (so paiseh)..
finally found a decent hotel that charge us 300% more than the locals.

I was like WTF!!! You didn't even visit the Taj Mahal when you are so close by -
the one and only McDonald in the one and only shopping mall..
only the well-off locals get to eat them...and they stare at us like we are the hungry "Chinese" ghosts... we ate a lot..
after eating, took separate cyclist tuk tuk back to hotel....
(lucky i brought walkie talkie..if not, i'll probaby be kidnapped liao...)
Sundown...beautiful sight, the hustling and bustling ..
(yes, my pics dun do the sunset justice)..
we go pack and get ready for the next 17 hours of no sleep, just walking, no place to pee, no food, no drink journey to the Ganga River for the festival...... liao..
Still no directions, we decide to take our chance....ask them...the blind lead the blind....starts... -

Day 2 ending, going to Day 3 ....
We walked along the streets of Allahabad.. Many pple are celebrating, offering hot steamy ginger teas and biscuits to the poor and homeless.
We pulled us to their sides and gave us a share too....(probably see us cold and trying to struggle with the cold, it was about 5 degrees and windy!)
and down the road, there was a commotion, it's a wedding celebration..
everyone involved in the procession, bringing lots of food to the wedding venue. We joined in and were pulled to the dancing floor.. (the india dance)..
next moment, one of guy friend (the short and round one) got hoisted up in the air (with his camera and bag) and they are cheering him (like a god)...
it was really fun....i tried some of their yummy desserts... blend in like the local,..what a treat...
At least i get to sample local food ...hehehe...free? -

On our way to the Festival HOLY GROUND, which we dun really which way to head for...
We gotten a few college boys to help in translation and gotten the tuk tuk (cyclist again) to the HOLY DESERT GROUND... oh boy, it's another 1 hour ride there.. imagine we walked...
they sell food, we were dumbed enough and din buy any...in which we all stayed hungry and thirsty for the next 12 hours at the no-man land..
we walk and follow the crowd...walk walk ..no signs, no direction, no end...
just walk..
the entire place was in incandesent lights, and my pathetic lens cannot make it.. it was bloody difficult to take the pics...
so here goes, the super blur ones...MY PHOTOGRAPHY friends call these pictures, ARTISTICALLY BLUR!

it's like a Fairyland...and i never experienced this before....
the place, it's breath-taking actually.

Nice! Though i think it'd would have been more worthwhile if you had been to Ladakh. India is definitely one of the countries I want to visit(geographically wise)!
btw, how much was your air ticket to and fro? and if take train from delhi to the northen region about how much ah? -

Local railway train is about S$15 per long trip....short trip is about S$10..
btw, bring your own toilet rolls. I brought 2 and have to fight over toilet rolls with 3 kakis who also brought 2 each..
they cost S$2 each there. and they rarely sold there.. -
