I guess coz western medicine gets rid of the symptons whereas TCM get rid of the roots of the problemOriginally posted by primalscream:haha.. jus curious, cos i am a non-chinese.. read somewhere that TCM is taking the world

Primarily, modern medicine only treats the symptoms - so if you have a running nose, modern medicine dries up and stops the fluid from flowing out of the nose but it doesn't fight the virus causing the illness.
Whereas, TCM targets the root (virus) and eliminates the virus and is not too concerned with just stopping the runniness. This is why some people say Chinese medicine is not as strong as western ones.......
For a girl to be dong fang bu bai, it's ok. But for a guy, he will need to cut off his bird bird first.Originally posted by venny:so we all got nei gong ah u saying? unlock all liao then become dong fang bu bai lor!
Thanks alot for sharing your knowledge.. you are a true believer.. i was surfing and researching.. its really very interesting way of looking at the whole body system in the TCM way.Originally posted by TWE:In short think ok , if TCM is really as useless as what those western doctors have said , then how is it able to survive untill now which is already a few thousand years and now even gaining more and more recognition for it . I have been for cupping and acupuncture . cupping usually is used to remove stagnant blood in your body by pricking a few holes on your skin then use the cups to suck it out and is also used to treat rheumatism by absobing the excess moisture in your body that causes rheumatism . As for acupunture as chinese TCM believe that there are channels in which our " inner energy " flows similar to those chakra channel for naruto anime or so called neigong in those gungfu movies . There is a saying in chinese medicine whereby " if it pains then it is not flowing smoothly , and if it there is no pain means everything is flowing smoothly " . So in acupuncture they study all this meridiens in the body and to regulate them using the fine needles to " adjust " the flow . Like when a muscle is cramped , it means the muscle is very tense and the blood is unable to flow out so they will use fine needle to sooth it then when the muscle relax itself the blood will flow smoothly agn . Acupunctures are noted for their speedy ability to sooth pains much faster then taking medicines usually within a few minutes after treatments you can feel the difference .
Interesting things you have written about "inner energy", meridian and acupuncture. I've recently come across something very similar, but seems much easier for everyone to do, no need to be some gongfu grandmaster or TCM expert. It is about simpler ways to stimulate the acupressure points and meridian, such as massage, gua sha, etc. Good thing about techniques like massaging is that it reduces the need to be super accurate, as required in acupuncture, hence making it easy for anyone to do. May not be as powerful as acupuncutre, but definitely worth trying for everyday health improvement and maintenance.Originally posted by TWE:In short think ok , if TCM is really as useless as what those western doctors have said , then how is it able to survive untill now which is already a few thousand years and now even gaining more and more recognition for it . I agree totally.. all our forefathers have been depending on herbs and traditional methods for centuries. Like my grandmum will always grind some herbs and rub on us whenever we have fever when we were young and we survived.Originally posted by hisoka:i guess its more of we reached the point where western medication seems ot be slowing down its advance and we are finding more problems associated with it as we are more familiar, therefore an attempt to find alternatives.
TCM is truly facinating. I think if you want to learn all those stuff in detail, it will take 6 years or so to learn from TCM college or Chung Hwa Medical Institute in Singapore. If you survive that, you'll get some diploma at the end of it all. Courses are in Chinese only though.Originally posted by primalscream:I agree totally.. all our forefathers have been depending on herbs and traditional methods for centuries. Now with western medicines having side effects and not hitting the root of the problem, i am keen to learn more about herbs and methods of acupunture, cupping, shiatsu, massage etc. But i do not want to pay a bomb from someone claiming he/she is a TCM specialist and bullying a non chinese. Anyone have any recommendation that u have been ?
