The States backwards??!!!Originally posted by jetta:That's an interesting looking phone. Don't think I've seen it here before. The States is so backwards when it comes to cellphones.

I still prefer the black / stainless steel look for mobile phones - easier to coordinate with your handbag and outfit!
I'll talk to her first, then HR if it doesn't get resolved. Wait till I tell you what she has me doing tomorrow. I'm supposed to work from 9-1. She wrote the schedule before she knew that the store will open at 7am tomorrow. I'm super duper angry over this but I know that she didn't do this on purpose so I'm just biting the bullet. So I'm going in at 6am, clocking out at 715am on to run home so that I can drive the kids to school. Then I have to be back at work at 815am to continue where I left off. WTH?!?!?!?!!?Originally posted by Rhonda:Gosh... sounds like a really bad dilemma. Worse, sounds like she just doesn't care. Maybe, because you've bent over backwards to accommodate the schedule before, she thinks that you can do it again. Sounds like she's just pushing her luck.
Can't you go to, say, HR to resolve this issue?
When it comes to cellphones dahlink, when it comes to cellphones.Originally posted by Rhonda:The States backwards??!!!

That one that weighed a ton? The type that Phua Chu Kang would use?Originally posted by jetta:The classic Motorola "brick" phone comes to mind.
Firstly, I ccannot believe that it's already been 1.5 years. Where did the time go? Secondly, I had always though that Australia was a cheap place to live but only after some online friends who live there told me otherwise, I am enlightened. There's a huge difference between A$10K and S$1,100. Good grief!!! Could it be that you're getting a better quality education in Oz vs Sg? I would hope so. So what are your plans now?Originally posted by Rhonda:jetta, I tell you something... It's getting more and more expensive to maintain my lifestyle here. I've only been here for 1.5 years and I've noticed increases in the prices of goods and services already!
On top of that, here's what I discovered - Post-Graduate Diploma in Nursing with a specialisation course here - A$10K++. The same dip in Nursing in Singapore - under S$1,100!!!
It used to be that you HAVE to be sponsored by your hospital to be enrolled in the course in Singapore but not sure if they have relaxed the rules now to allow self-paying candidates to enroll. They've also modified it to be an 8-month course now.
Which makes me *(@)*(#&@% wanna kick my own ass!!!
Oh well, one can only move forward! One glaring fact - I can never work as a Nurse in Singapore again, not with that kind of working condition so oh well, no point whingeing.
Online education is priceless. This is the first time I've heard of "Just Follow Law". Sounds funny. I only have static stuff here that reminds me of home.Originally posted by Rhonda:That one that weighed a ton? The type that Phua Chu Kang would use?
Darnit... I'm so tempted to buy the Singapore DVD's "Men In White" and "Just Follow Law" because they're pretty cheap, and anything that reminds me of home would be lovely!
I won't say the education is 'better' here. For one thing, the Nursing School in Singapore has world-class facilities and the training, esp the hands-on training, is stricter and much tougher. The nursing grads here are really... tor huay (vomit blood, aka cikit tarah) because they are so 'cushioned'! They make a mistake, the nurses go, "It's alright, it's ok... yada yada" but back in Singapore, you get an earful and you'll be reduced to tears from the scolding but you know what, you learn important, vital lessons you never ever forget, which is what you need in Nursing!!! The grads here are so blardy arrogant, it's unbelievable!Originally posted by jetta:Firstly, I ccannot believe that it's already been 1.5 years. Where did the time go? I can tell that you love being there so... bo pian? Take life as it comes? I can definitely relate to the increasing cost of living. I'm not doing so hot in that department too. Even though I say I'll quit, I want to quit with a job already in hand.
Haiz, don't talk to me about $$$. After buying this place, we are in deep debt. And it doesn't look like we're going to be able to dig ourselves out of this for a long time. Everytime a tiny bit of cash frees up, something else comes up so I can't throw that into the mortgage. Take the most recent episode for instance, I've had to dump the cash into paying for my bloody dental implant.Originally posted by Rhonda:jetta, yesterday, one of my Filipino colleagues who has worked in Saudi Arabia and the US before told me that the credit limit on his Amex Gold Card is US$20,000!!!
I told him that I jolly well hope that you haven't been clocking up 'mileage' on it! Thankfully, he says he sets his own personal limit of US$1K on that card. Smart move!
I envy the people from China and Malaysia and the Philippines - their currency is so low compared to the A$ that it's really to their advantage to work here. All my Filipino colleagues are working hard to pay off land and property back in the Philippines!
The S$ is so strong that it doesn't make a scant bit of difference for me.
Okay, thanks for the update. I'll catch you later then. Good timing though because I have to get caught up with my Christmas card making. Not making too much progress, no thanks to horrible working schedule.Originally posted by Rhonda:jetta, LOVE to talk to you but darnit... gotta go earn my keep! Hope to catch you again soon!
And take care, Lotus Fairy! Nice to bump into you!
Piiiiiinkyyyyyy!!! Wherefore art thou? AV too!!
I had a couple of friends who were with WEA. They dragged us all over Sg when they had stuff to promote. Lord knows how many free gifts they gave us over the years. This friend was very lucky. Coca Cola poached her from WEA and gave her a very good job. Then Pepsi poached her from them and gave her some tua liap sai position, Director of SEA or something like that, and moved her to HK.Originally posted by LOTUSfairy:envy me...
