Actually we all nearly went mad and actually went out to buy our own food when we can
I wanna go India again
It is really a magical place
I cannot understand why MPB did not enjoy his stay there at all

Indian Bronze Art - if you think this is an elephant with it's trunk, you are wrong. It's actually a rat that cuts off its tail and tied them to its nose to look like an elephant. notice the little rat beside it?

like i say, if the touts trying to sell their products/service didn't break you up, the unrelenting honking will definitely break you. suprisingly, we get annoyed by other honking us,but it's a norm to them. in fact they encourage them by having "Please Horn" or "Blow Horn" lettring painted on their vehicles especially those big lorriesOriginally posted by monoslayer:how come u nv mention abt the horrendous traffic in the city?

Sarnath - one of the holy Buddhist site - This was the place where the Buddha taught his 5 disiciples the first discourse - Dhammachakapavattana Sutta - The turning of the Wheel of the Dhamma.
Below is the Mulaghanda Kuty Vihara built by a Sri Lankan monk, the founder of Maha Bodhi Society of India in 1931 to help to preserve this place until the Archeological Dept of India took over them

On the wall of this vihara were beautiful painting depiciting the life of the Buddha done my a famous Japanese artist Kotesu Nosu during the year 1932 - 1936

this is the stupa built on the place where the first discourse - turning of the wheel of dhamma was taught. there are three layers to the stupa.

this is the replica of the real thing in the museum. it is a dharmachakapravartan mudra - Buddha in a preaching posture (5th century AD) . Unfortunately this replica could not capture the essence of the real thing. don't ask for the real thing. photography is prohibited in the museum.

This is the ruin (stupa) next to the first stupa. This was where the Anatalakana Sutta - The Discourse on No-Self was taught.

This ruins are the fragment of monolithic pillar erected by the Mauryan Empire King Ashoka (272-232 BC). It is made from Chunar Sand Stone with the lions in four directions (now the emblem of the Government of India) on the top of the pillar. There is an inscription on the pillar which warns the monks and nuns against creating schism in the monks committee.

This first discourse was taught in Isitapana Deer Park some 2,500 years ago. The serenity of the place and seeing that deer and antelope still roam the park brings you back to time

Beside Isitapana Deer Park is this Jain temple. This sect is divided into 2 sect. the orthodox white dress sect and the unorthodox nudist sect.

My friend who visited the Ganges River said he saw floating corpses in the river.. not a lot, like 1 or 2, and everyone was ignoring the corpses happily bathing up/down river..... mebbe that's where the smell of death came from
