  So now I'm thinking PSP Slim but stella girl was asking me to look at the DS Lite instead

  Depends on what you want....
  
  You want good graphics and more mature games, go for the PSP Slim.
  
  You want interactive gameplay and don't mind slightly more 'kiddy' games, go for the DS Lite.

  If his TV employs a current-generation plasma panel, screen burn is no longer an issue.
