If there is ever a political debate in Singapore, there'll an outright ISA operation to block it.Originally posted by Rhonda:It was really an eye-opener watching how the Labour and Liberal parties fought to win votes over here in the recent elections. Foremost on my mind was how we'd never get to see stuff like that in Singapore because well, to begin with, we don't exactly have very strong opposition parties.
I love to watch the campaigns and interviews on CNN between the Republicans and the Democrats too. The people really ask questions, no holds barred. It's never rude nor confrontational, but there is persistence in getting firm answers.
Here are a few campaigns that ran on TV here that I was really pleased to find on YouTube. (As some of you here already know, I'm new to YouTube, so yeah, I'm kinda suaku. ) I don't think Singapore will ever see the day when the opposition would be allowed to run ads like that on national TV!
We certainly cannot hold the leaders accountable for mistakes and misdemeanours, like some of these ads do. Really interesting!
The Difference Between Kevin Rudd and John Howard
Really, Mr Howard?
How much further will the Liberals take Work Choices?
Mr Howard didn't tell us about Work Choices
Enjoy! And feel free to share your thoughts and comments! Let's have a proper discussion here to liven things up!

Well, don't ask for change for the sake of change because it might not be a change for the better!Originally posted by ceecookie:With the PAP in power, dont expect any limelight for the opposition.
When Lee Kuan Yew dies(hopefully ASAP),i should expect some changes
I agree about the pathethic opposition. But then again, wont the PAP be blamed for the pathethic state of the opposition with harsh lawsuits and such?Originally posted by Rhonda:Basically, I'll still vote for the PAP nevertheless because the opposition we have currently is pretty pathetic. But what I'd like to see, and I'm sure a lot of other Singaporeans share the same view, is a more open approach and a less passive-aggressive approach towards the opposition. We can judge for ourselves who's bona fide, and who's unreliable, etc.

I think those with vested interests in a country, eg. owning assets / property, having a family, etc, the ideas and opinions will be different.Originally posted by sbst275:Dun ever go into changes just for the sake of changes
End of the day, gotta ask ourselves, wat benefits does the masses get, the cost, etc
No worries! I know all about being addicted to toys!Originally posted by elindra:Will watch the vids when I'm home and when I get tired of my PSP Slim
Sorry Missy, I'm like engrossed in my new toy now
How can you blame PAP for wielding the law? The law doesn't favour one party over another. I believe it's possible to articulate your views properly and responsibly without transgressing the laws. Opposition parties are free to wield the law against the PAP too, y'know......Originally posted by ceecookie:I agree about the pathethic opposition. But then again, wont the PAP be blamed for the pathethic state of the opposition with harsh lawsuits and such?
Will we EVER have a strong and viable opposition party?
I watched the political campaigns with the Labour party and Liberals fighting it out in Australia recently, and now, I try to catch the debates between the Liberals and Republicans on CNN, and I think to myself, IF ONLY we can someday emulate this!
It's a wonderful thing - citizens being actively involved in the voting process, because they have choices to make! I'm not asking for opposition for the sake of opposition, because if the opposition candidates are dodgy, I'd still vote for the PAP because well, there is not much of a choice, is there?!
BTW, if you haven't watched the videos in my links, do so. I love those ads!

This has got nothing to do with the topic, but I just HAVE to share it because it is too funny!
I told one of my colleagues that I've been busy playing with "my new toy", referring to my PC.
She asked, "What? What new toy? Didcha get a new vibrator?"
Cultural differences!

there is a choice..
that of casting a blank vote intentionally..
PAP also advertise mah but through noisy little mini van.
No class, No style, No creativity.
Nevertheless their branding image is still better than the opposition party.
I wait for there day where their ad will run in our tv.
When will it come? ha
