I'm in lust with this .....
my right hand was on my wallet over the weekend to whip out that piece of plastic to order this .....
The new Halcyon Eclipse single tank backplate BC .... with 30 or 40lb lift bladders and steel backplate .....
I'm using the previous series, the halcyon pioneer ... 27lb lift bladder ... I figured it may no longer be enough for me ....
if I can do a trade in or find a sucker to take the old one off my hands I'll go for it ...

it is well maintained of course ... I got someone to bring it for yearly servicing even when I was in canada ...
right now it's on loan at perhentian, you can take a look when it comes back ...
it's the original pioneer series, with the heavy steel backplate, rigged for DIR, but can be reconfigured for use with normal hoses, I'll toss in a octopus clip for that ...

ok...I'll take a look at it when it gets back..maybe test drive it in a pool. the gear design is very sound...however showing up on a diveboat with it will likely get me a lot of snide comments from others. I'll have to consider that aspect as well.

you must have been lurking too much in ang moh diving forums ...
no lah, you don't see that much around the region, except for the philipines ....
what i don't like is the proliferation of backplate systems by manufacturers who don't really know what backplates are about ....
backplates are supposed to be steel, not aluminium or some light exotic alloy, the whole idea is to have the weight distributed evenly around the back, so you need not have a heavy belt around the waist, shifting your CG underwater ... if you replace that with a light plate then it really defeats the whole purpose ... even halcyon is not immune to this mass market demand ...

you mean they use aluminium plates now?
anyway...one thing I like about the one piece webbing harness..it accomodates bodyweight changes
does that mean.. the halcyon days of halcyon are over?

and what's stopping you?
nope ... they got bigger by selling stuff to the masses now, instead of a small select group of equipment nuts ....
and yes, you have the option of aluminium or steel plate now ... the harness is very comfortable if configured correctly ... though the crotch strap may take a bit of getting used to ...
I use only the steel backplate ... on shallower dives I need not use any weight at all ....

yeah...I was thinking with the backplate and jetfins I may end up using at most one piece of weight once I get my diving legs back..
