none of my friends are gay, that I know of, and I don't know how I'd react if they "came out".

if it bothers you, just let him know that you are not comfortable hanging out with him. just tell him how you feel.
i think all people who 'come out of the closet' already know that by doing so they will lose some friends/ people will shun them etc.
no point pretending that you dont mind and meeting them even if you dont want to
if you want to stay friends, let him know. just explain that you dont want to meet up. yet. maybe after some time you might feel more comfortable with it...but that for now you are just not ready... -

long ago when i was alot younger, i saw gay men as being weak. but later on in life when I actually got to know a few friends BEFORE finding out they were gay, I realised that they're, on the average, alot braver than you or I. It's not easy to out yourself, society doesn't like it, your friends might shun you, your mum might throw a hissy fit etc etc ... how many guys u think can take that on a daily basis and still find it within them to go about their daily lives?
whether it's a lifestyle choice or genetic, give your gay friends and acquaintences (how do you spell this lol) the same respect that you would your straight ones IMO. If you're not comfy to meet up, just tell him that, he'll prolly understand it and then things won't be so awkward anymore.
besides, gay men tend to have alot more female friends than you'd like to believe ... and some of them are prolly pretty, straight, well stacked & well, you get the drift lol!

i've nothing against gay men. It's the lesbians i have a problem. Namely those who get all riled up and spout crap like "we are human beings too, we have our rights", "EFF OFF if you're a hater" and similar nonsense. I've known a few who go to church often. When i asked one of them what did she think about homosexuality in the Bible, she gives me this oh-so-weary tone and says "Jesus loves me for who i am, hate the sin but love the sinner."
I HATE it how they twist these phrases to suit them. Hypocritical basstards. -

I live in a country where they are everywhere! Sometimes, you can't really tell if they are or aren't even!
They are some of the nicest people I've known. They are usually very patient, sympathetic, good conversationalists, helpful and frank, especially the gays.
In my job, I get exposed to all sorts, and there are colleagues as well as patients and their visitors, who are homosexuals. There was actually one lesbian couple in particular, who were so commited and devoted to each other that they made me think, hmmm... (This was right after I broke up with my fireman! 
) Sometimes and in certain areas, you can relate to someone of your own sex much better. Homosexuals are most likely people who couldn't find fulfillment in heterosexual relationships and/or they identify much better with people of the same sex.
I have my views about homosexuality, but I shan't impose them on anyone other than myself. I have discovered that by not judging them, but to get to know them as an individual first, you can end up with another buddy to add to your list. There are two gay colleagues that I just love to bits because they are just such awesome and helpful people!
I do understand what you're saying about feeling a tad queasy going out with a gay. I might feel the same way going out with a Lesbian, for instance! But the thing is to try and look beyond this, and see them as a person and block out the bits about their sexual orientation that you cannot stomach.
BTW, I do have an ex whose behaviour makes me wonder, till this day, if he is a closet gay or a homosexual who hasn't come to terms with his homosexuality! Sweet relief I didn't marry him!!!

I'm numb to such scenes now. Whilst I don't like it, I respect the Aussie value of ''to each his/her own''. I may not condone their values, and although I haven't gone to church for donkey months, as a general rule of thumb, the Bible is still my morality ruler, but who am I to impose MY values and morals on others? Here, we are all free to live our lives as we deem fit and the beauty of it is, life can become quite vibrant if you're quietly accepting of people and their weird nuances.
Thing is, you don't have to agree with what they are doing, neither do you have to like what they are doing; just see them as individuals, and approach them as such and you never know, you might have just gained a friend!
Before I came over to Australia, I was extremely homophobic, and I wouldn't think twice about using the words, "disgusting", "abnormal", etc on homosexuals. I think coming over here in itself has been quite an education of sorts and now, I'm just quietly respectful of them as fellow human beings who have simply chosen another route in life. -

Just because they are homosexual, it doesn't mean they are going to be attracted to anyone of the same gender especially if they already knew you're straight.
While they might have different sexual preference, they are just another human being and do know how to respect their friends.
So don't worry about your gay friend. I think your gay friend genuinely wants to catch up with you. -

Having heard from my gay and lesbian friends point of view
and how they felt totally let down by even childhood friends
who suddenly desert them the moment they 'out' themselves
and the struggle they have to go through to gain self acceptance all over again, and come to terms with who they are.
how in search of love, they end up estranged from their families
and often isolated.
I can't help but being... a bit.. homophobe-phobic.
I am not making a moral judgement on their choice - but its a tough life without people making it tougher.
it's like people who don't be friends with fat girls cos they scared the fat girls like them.

hey, I don't discriminate against them, I'm all for homo rights, up to a point ! ...
some say that people can't help being the way they are, true enough, but why is it that people have absolutely no problems putting boundaries and OB markers on certain other sort of ... ermmm ... *searches for right word ... fetishes .... kinks ... you now what I mean .... like say pedophilia ? ... it's a psychological condition too eh, perhaps people who like little boys and girls can't help it, why is society so willing to shun and legislate against them and consign them as pariahs and outcastes but not say, homos now ? ... because it has been in the mainstream consiousness for too long ? ...
let's change the scenario and say if someone outs himself as a life long closet pedophile, would it evoke the same sort of sympathy ? ...
I don't mind them homos, I can even be perfectly professional with them in a working environment too ....
