Yup. Guess its the movie's imminent release that prompted me to read the book.Originally posted by Rhonda:I read this donkey years ago, but it left an impression on me! It has such an original style and certain bits in the book are so graphically-detailed that you can almost "see" the scene unfold in your mind's eye... literally!
You've picked up a great book, LazerLordz!
I still got many more books unwrapped... Got them free...Originally posted by LazerLordz:I've read this once. Not bad, typically peppered with jarhead lingo.

It's one of those intense sadness that doesn't ignite the tears, but leaves you feeling melancholic as the days go by.Originally posted by ShrodingersCat:The intensity of that book nearly killed me.
until now the ending makes me depressed.

I used to be a voracious reader but lately... Okay make that the past few years. Hard to find the time when I have to juggle work, kids, their schedules, dental/medical appointments, my schedule, the house, the dogs... haiz. Which is why I have yet to finish reading The Good Earth and have yet to start on Anna Karenina. I will persevere!!!

i think 1984 makes me feel very melancholic and kind of hopeless... but err it does it in much shorter pages

If you think that's bad, studying Chekov for a semester then was enough to save on sleeping medication.Originally posted by soleachip:Never made past the first 3 pages of any tolstoy novel.
The curious incident of the dog in the night-time is a very interesting read. It was totally different from all other books I'd ever read.Originally posted by soleachip:Was tempted to buy this, but figured it could be too depressing a read. Just realized it has been made to a movie by Sean Penn. Anybody tried these titles?
