I just watched a show on the History Channel on giant freshwater fish... Native Amazon peoples report that particular fish eating small children. Literally. They had a woman who's cousin was eaten by the fish (or so they claim). It doesn't even matter if it's true, just the fact that people are claiming it, and that the fish is feasibly large enough should rule it out from home aquaria.
But then again, I dunno... might make babysitting easier. -
