Come on guys, share all the delicious food you have eaten today.
We went over to our aunt's place to have our reunion dinner. This year is potluck. The 'Chefs' include My Aunt, Her Maid, My Mum and MPB Their maids did a beautiful job of arranging the food nicely before on to the table.
My Uncle came out with long and weird names for the dishes which I can't remember. I should have brought his menu home to scan in and post
Our cold dish is a fruit platter. This is because my grandaunt is vegetarian, so some dishes are vegetarian... she does have some special side dishes though
This is followed by Loh Hei which was bought from Singapore Swimming Club Resturant (I think it belongs to the Tung Lok Group)
I don't know the Peranakan name for this dish but we have it every CNY. Our family have Peranakan roots but it's kinda diluted now :P We call it 'Hoi Keh'
A big Fishy
MPB prepared Braised Duck
My mum made an extra salad dish. Really yummy crab salad
Prawns cooked Thai style
Char Siew but it was too lean :(
Abalone and Greens
Chilled Hua Tiao Chicken
Fai Cai Chup Cai Dish
No dessert because my uncle cancelled it because he figured too much food :(
What a feast! Now that's what I call a reunion dinner. Yum---mmy!! *drools*
WOOHOO!! looks soo good! esp the braised duck and shrimps =P i no like skinny char siew too =\
anyways, what's those ball-y thingies in the Hoi Keh dish...?
and happy CNY~ =D
mine every year more or less the same.
lo hei
the ho xi fatt choy
garoupa
curry chicken
suckling pig
bee hoon
big vege or tua chai
not sure how to spell most of them.
i like the fruit platter
Mine included:
- White rice
- Achar
- Ayam buah keluak
- Babi pongteh
- Steamed golden pomfret
- Some leeks fried with shrimps
- Pipa duck
- Siew yok
- Fish maw soup
- Pinot noir
- Raw fish salad
How was the abalone, elindra? Mum found hers (used in the soup) lacking in flavour...I suspect it's because it's canned.
And your crab, shoots and meatball soup is called bakwan kepiting.
mine got
1. pork bukalak
2. pork belly soup
3. lou hei - abalone
4. steam boat chicken stock
5. steam boat tom yam stock
5. slice fish, chicken, pork, scallop, etc.......
Wah!! You had a real feast! The table deco and the way the food was presented was a feast for the eyes too!

Xin Nian Kwai Le!
I took the day off. Going out to meet a friend and her family for Reunion Dinner later.
I didn't take any photos of the Reunion Dinner we had last Saturday at Honeymouse's house, but tonight, when I have another Reunion Dinner with a Singaporean colleague, I shall!
I shall just go and drink some Orange Squash now, because it's not CNY without Orange Squash!
elindra, your mama really cooked up a storm! Everything on the table looks so delicious! I'm drooling!
Just returned from my 2nd Reunion dinner for the year! Decided to drop by the alcohol shop on my way home and I'm relaxing and enjoying the OSH now!
I love Melbourne more now... because they have the OSH now!!
And for our dinner, we went to a fantastic restaurant in Mount Waverley and had a feast!
We started off with Shark's Fin Soup. (Or more accurately, fake gelatin shark's fin in rich stock. )
And then... my favourite dish of the day - Lobster Noodle!
Doesn't this remind you of Kuishin-Bo, with Bear and his pile of Alaskan Snow Crab legs?
And then suddenly, all the dishes came out at once!
Forgot to snap a photo of the Oysters with Vegetables in Rich Stock Gravy, the Fruit Platter and the Red Bean Soup. Too busy eating.
Overall, it was a great dinner! My friend and I took the train together because we lived close to each other, but we were so fool and silly, we went to the wrong Platform, and watched our train pass us by! It was then another half-hour's wait for the next train.
Overall, we were very happy having a meal together!
Looks good Rhonda!
My mum didn't cook everything
It's a potluck and everyone brought their own dish
The presentation was done by my aunt's maid
Wow....elindra......what a spread!!! The table setting like in a restaurant ley. Impressive!!!!
Okay, here's mine. I started with sharks fins soup with crab meat:
Starter : jellyfish
Lettuce in braised dried scallop and sliced abalone
Assam Nanas Pedas aka Assam Fish
My favourite : har lok
Finally....steamed lobster.
Put all together, my reunion dinner table look like this. Dinner for two:
No fancy table setting. Erm, the sharks fins soup looked different because the end result is I added chopped corianders leaves, a dropped egg and thickened with corn starch.
Oh, I didn't show the duck 'cos I cheated. Bought one. No time to cook meat dish.
Xin Nian Kuai Le......everybody!!!!
i din take any pic..
my family had the following dishes at for reunion dinner:
1. yu sheng
2. jin mu lu (fish)
3. cereal prawns
4. yi pin guo (consist of abalone, mushrooms, sea cucumber, scallops, prawn etc)
5. sweet and sour pork
6. prawn paste chicken
7. fuo yu piao xiang (yam ring)
rhonda: the lobster noodle looks really really yummy!!
elindra: the fruits look really fresh and colourful~
Oh my gosh, littlestream!! You really pulled out all the stops, didn't you?! Your spread looks absolutely sumptious! Your husband is so lucky - he may be far away from his home country but he gets reminded of home each time he tucks into a meal. I hope he realises how lucky he is!
Wah... a lot of effort for a dinner for just two people nia!
BBB, the lobster noodles was my favourite dish! It was really nice! I was so happy that the kids and my friend didn't like lobster so I took three lobster legs, and two meaty chunks. Beary Beary Happy! And oh, I tried to copy the method Bear uses to eat his crab legs and managed to pull one out swee-swee... but the other two, shi bai, left stuck in the shell so kena wasted, I left them uneaten, cannot be bothered to dig for them. They didn't even provide that stainless steel appliance used for pulling out the crab flesh so I had to abandon the thought.

wah u beri got kou fu~! hahaha
my mum has never cooked lobster before.
i get v messy when i eat crabs..ya a waste of food also.. can't imagine if it's lobster.. lagi more wasteful.
Actually BBB, I love the Lobster Noodles so much that I'm thinking of returning to that restaurant just to takeaway the Lobster Noodles, and then eat it for Lunch and Dinner and Supper one day! Thing is, I have to take a tram to the train station and then take a 40 min ride to the restaurant and then another 40 mins back to the train station then walk to the tram station to do that. Not so sure I'd even bother!
