Thanks, kopi and fudgie!
Rhonda, sry for hijacking your thread... Just wanted to do a mini survey for females.
If cannot post here, pm me and I will remove it.
I'm never impressed by the brand, but by the design. Sometimes, I walk past a shop window and see a handbag I love, I'll just go in and if the price is reasonable, I'll buy it, doesn't matter if it's non-branded, as most of my bags are.
The thing about a branded handbag being able to last longer, well that's not a selling point for me. Why would you want to carry the same bag for 5 years when you can have different style bags to mix-and-match with your outfit?
Also, if you're paying for real leather, good workmanship, durability, and a classic design for a branded handbag, fine. BUT, if it's just a PVC bag with a fashionable design that costs a bomb just because it's up-to-date fashion and it's branded, forget it!
Mom loves branded handbags and she has a huge collection. There's this Chanel one that's taken out and used only once a year - during Chinese New Year, simply it's too precious to use on a daily basis! She treats it like bao bei and wipes it down lovingly, admires it, uses leather polish on it, etc... amusing to watch!
I feel like a vulture sometimes... patiently waiting by the sidelines for her to tire of any one bag, and then, it becomes MINE!! My Precioussssss!!!

No worries, mate! I've filled out the survey myself. BTW, what is the survey for? Or rather, who are you doing it for?

Maximum spent on one item ah? In recent memory or what?
That would be the almost $400 Furla bag I got at Centrepoint. That's expensive by my standards. I still maintain that I was robbed.
As for branded goods, when I was in my late teens and early20s, I used to care because of the circle of friends I hung out with. After I got married and had kids, my universe shifted. I guess the only "branded" item, if you can call it that, that I love is my Anais Anais perfume. Although it's been getting harder and harder to find of late. I wonder why?
I think there's a reason why mom never goes shopping for handbags with me around. Once, we walked into this Christian Dior shop and I saw my mom eyeing this handbag that was more than $5K and she was actually contemplating buying it! I think she noticed me making eyes at her and glaring, so she decided not to. Biangz... it's an obscene amount of money to spend on any handbag, unless it comes laden with diamonds and edged in gold!

Maybe Anais Anais is considered retro now?
I love Furla stuff too :)
Anyway Anais Anais smells very strongly of lilies :o

elindra, you're so tactful and polite... 'retro'.

Hanor! Which brings me back to my first point - I don't believe in spending money on them!
Hmm... why is it that there seems to be a general difficulty in people understanding figurative language? Are our English teachers doing their jobs right? Or are the students not paying attention in class anymore?

So, erm... did you sleep or skip class?
This is funny, because I was referring to you taking my comment about diamonds and gold literally! I was exaggerating on purpose to illustrate a point.

So, do you spend on branded fashion? We're referring to stuff like clothing, accessories (ie. shoes, handbags, watches, jewellery), skincare, perfume and cosmetics, stuff related to the fashion industry. Do you insist on buying only certain branded goods for some items? What's the maximum amount you've ever spent on any one item?
I mainly buy Polo Ralph purple/black label for my casuals and Armani for my formaly more business wear, I find that these two generally have cuts that suit me better. Have tried going down the non branded route, but somehow the cut does not work for me. Still I do most of my shopping on ebay and have found some really good bargains. I recently bought around 5 pairs of Armani pants for $200USD including shippng and I thought that it was reasonable. That said I was at the sales and picked up two pairs of Zegna linen pants for $80AUD. I thought that was reasonable. Watches I wear a Trias, though I do have a Baume Mercier and a Tag. The Trias is just so different. Shoes I tend to wear branded shoes like bally, ferragamo and cole haans for my formal stuff and rockports and sperry for my casuals, shoes are difficult for me as I wear orthortics. Most I have ever spent on an item? $3500AUD on a Jacket.
quick question, Rhonda, you mentioned about trying branded cosmetics/skin care products, what would you be looking for? How many females here use branded skincare products?

Recently I picked up a Hugo Boss T-Shirt for 10 bucks SGD and 2 Nautica Polo Tees at 15 bucks each and a Polo Ralph Polo T for 15 bucks too :P
